Alvin Dave Williams

Mr. Alvin Dave Williams was a native born resident of San Diego, California, where he also received his formal education. He passed away on Monday, October 10, 2016. Visitation Service will be held Thursday, October 20, 2016 from 5:oo P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Anderson-Ragsdale Mortuary.  Funeral Services will be held the following day also at Anderson-Ragsdale Mortuary Memory Chapel at 11:00 A.M.

Alvin Dave Williams was born June 30, 1942 in San Diego, California. He was the second son and the middle child born to parents the late Arthur Williams Sr. and Alberta (Gentry) Williams. He attended Gompers Jr. High School, Lincoln Sr. High School, graduating in June, 1960. Alvin was a true Lincoln Hornet. He had many friends and kept those friendships to present.  Alvin attended Bethel Baptist Church with his mother, big brother Terrell and later, his little sister, Alyce. The pastor, the late Dr. C.H. Hampton was special to Alvin. 

After high school, Alvin moved in with his brother, sister-in-law, and family. After a year in the home of his Big Brother, he took him to the U.S. Air Force recruiting station. He joined the Air force in 1961 served dutifully for four years and was honorably discharged in 1965 as an Airman 2nd class.

After military service, Alvin ventured north first to Los Angeles, then to Berkley and Oakland, CA. While Alvin resided in Berkeley California he had a long large fat yellow snake that was not always caged.  It may have been the “Alvin quirk” passed down to his great great nephew Anthony who adores bugs (specially roly-poly’s) and snake exhibits at  the San Diego Zoo.

He attended and graduated from UC Berkeley with a BA degree in Philosophy. Alvin was proud of this accomplishment. His son Demian Williams was born while he resided in Oakland.

Alvin managed a Sizzler Restaurant in Oakland.  After some time, he decided to return to his home town and family. 

In 1985, Alvin became self-employed and operated a check cashing business, A.2 Check Cashing. When the big checking cashing businesses came forward, He decided on a career with the County of San Diego. 

He retired after 18 years from the County of San Diego as a Housing Specialist. 

During his lifetime, he visited several countries namely Japan, the Caribbean, Trinidad and Tobago. He was fond of skiing and all sports with a passion for football, track and field and holidays with his family.  He had deep love and respect for his Big Brother Terrell and his little sister Alyce.

After a lengthy illness Alvin passed away, Monday, October 10, 2016 at UC San Diego Medical Center.  He was ready to leave “his pain behind”. Alvin’s parents Arthur and Alberta Williams; his brother Arthur (Terrell), Williams; sister, Alyce K. Williams-Wilson and Great Niece Amber M. Moret predeceased him. He is survived by his son, Demian Williams; two grand-children, Demian and Savannah Williams; three nephews, Terrell A. Williams, Joseph K. Davis and Milan A. (Mica) Davis; one niece, Terece A. (Jose) Moret; one great niece, Anisha P. Moret; one great-great nephew, Anthony E. Cook.

Cousins: William (Katie) Payne, Rodger (Marcia) Varner, Carolyn “Denise” Varner, Vernon Varner, Tommy Varner, Rodney (Ann) Carroll, Allan Carroll, Jill Carroll-Meshack, William (Carol) Carroll, Evelyn Porter and Mayfran Johnson. Some true loyal friends include Herbert “Wool” Woolridge, Shirley Wallace, Robert (Juanita) Braswell, and a host of other family and friends.
