Randall (Randy) K. Gibson, 56, was called to his eternal resting place on March 21, 2017, in San Diego, California, after a steadfast and courageous battle with cancer. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family.

He was born in South Charleston, West Virginia. He graduated from Point Pleasant High School and proceeded to receive both a Bachelor of the Arts and a Masters Degree in Business Administration at Marshall University in the 1980s, followed by a Juris Doctorate in Law at Ohio State University in 1997. His strong will and determination were present all through his life, as evident in his many accomplishments. His professional accolades include: Certified Public Accountant (Ohio, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia), Attorney (Ohio, Washington, D.C.), DCAA Auditor, Contracts Professional (Metro Washington, D.C. area), Accounting Adjunct Faculty at George Mason University (Virginia), Director of Compliance (Virginia), and most recently, Professor at the Defense Acquisition University (San Diego).

In addition to his professional service, Randy committed his time to his church and local arts community. He served as a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Filipino-American Community at St. Joseph’s Cathedral of San Diego. He fostered his love of music by playing saxophone in both the University of San Diego Pep Band and Pomerado Community Band. He was a life-long “Thundering Herd” fan of his Alma Mater, Marshall University. He continued his loyalty to college sports by attending numerous games where he lived in Virginia and California. Randy was also a passionate reader and was rarely seen without a book, newspaper, or magazine in hand.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents. He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Bernadette Gibson, his beloved parents, Stanley and Dianna Gibson, and his devoted sister, Karen Gibson. He is dearly remembered by his many aunts and uncles, cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, niece and nephew.

A memorial Mass will be held Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 11:30am at St. Joseph’s Cathedral. An additional memorial will be held in his home state of West Virginia at a later date. The family encourages any donations to be made to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org/donate).
