In the years of 1968-69, I would work in a small store near Chollas Heights, CA., part-time when I was in the U.S. Navy. Houston would come in there many times when he was in the area. Sign a few autographs. Knew I was in Navy and would always salute.

I was a teammate of Houston's on the track team in 65 and 66. What a gracious and kind human being. I was a better person for knowing him. For the information of those that may not know, he was a super athlete. He could have been a world class shot putter if he had not chosen football, and that is a fact. God has a blessing with Him in heaven.

Houston was a very gracious guy to me when I attended San Diego State. We had a class together and he invited me and my future wife to one of his parties. She and I were only 2 of 4 "whites" at the party, but, because of him, we had one of the most fun times at ANY party we attended. He opened the door to "Black" culture for me, that I took to Vietnam, where I became a 'Honorary Black' and 'Blood Brother'. I can say that Houston very positively affected my life. A great guy that will be sorely missed by all that knew him. Thanks Houston. Steve
