Obituary

 

Washington Waddell better known as “Remawn” was born on February 3, 1972 in San Diego, California to Washington Waddell and Diane Waddell. He was born early and wasn’t expected to live. Only God knew the plans that he had for Remawn. He was the oldest of two children. Remawn was raised in San Diego, and he attended Holmes Elementary, Albert Einstein Middle, and Madison High School. In 1995, he graduated from San Diego State University with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Administration.

Remawn accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. He was baptized at Mount Sinai Baptist Church. In his young years, Remawn would attend church and sit on his grandmother’s lap and enjoy the services. He studied the bible in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School classes at Mount Sinai. Remawn grew up in the church performing different roles in biblical plays, reciting scriptures and giving speeches. Also, he enjoyed receiving and reading Our Daily Bread stories, scriptures and prayers. He was a God-fearing man. His legacy includes his motto “Choose to be Blessed.”

Remawn was blessed with a distinct presence. He could brighten up a room with his charismatic personality. He found humor in everyday activities. He was the life of family holiday celebrations. He enjoyed taking people down memory lane. The family counted on Remawn’s quick witted sense of humor, infectious laughter, and insightful commentary. Remawn was a true humanitarian, having an abundance of friends who appreciated his fun-loving spirit and tender heart. He valued showing care to anyone he met and had a strong desire to make others feel special.

Remawn held many honors and awards. As a Teacher Assistant for San Diego Unified School District, he tutored students who were at Risk academically, These relationships continued and Remawn helped these students throughout their education. He was also a Math Tutor for students attending San Diego State University. He actively promoted political candidates that would improve his community. He received the honor of being a San Diego Chapter LINKS Achiever. He volunteered on many community service projects such as those sponsored by United Way. He was also a member of San Diego State University Alumni.

After graduating from college, he began his career at COX Communications. It didn’t take long for Remawn to be recognized for his leadership. He worked his way up to Lead and later Team Manager. His boss described him as hard wording, a good communicator and dedicated. He enjoyed being a Digital Telephone Manager at the Customer Care Center.

In 1997, Remawn was blessed with a baby girl, Jaslyn Waddell. He devoted his life to his daughter Jaslyn. Remawn loved and cherished his daughter and family. Jaslyn was the “apple of eye.” It brought him great joy to share exciting news about the accomplishments of his “Jas” with other people. He was so proud of Jas graduating college joining Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and more recently becoming a Teacher at San Diego Unified School District.

There was no doubt that Remawn was a family man. He relished using special terms of endearment for those that he loved. Remawn would often call his mother Diane “Madre” and referred to her as “his heart.” He would say “My mother is the greatest mother in the world.” He thanked God everyday for his mother. Remawn had profound love for his father Washington, whom he endearingly called “Pop.” He missed him greatly upon his passing. He loved his sister Diane (DeeDee) and his two nephews. He enjoyed being an older brother to his “baby sis” as he called her. His sister felt so special when he would gleefully sing out “Boochie!” Similarly, his nephews would light up when his distinctive voice called out “NJ!” for Jaceyon.

Remawn was a die-hard Chargers fan. One of his favorite things to do in life was to tailgate at Chargers games with his dad, daughter and friends. No matter if the Chargers won or lost, Remawn supported them. He would always say “Chargers for Life,” As a devoted sports fan of the Chargers, you could find Remawn holding season tickets. He was also a devoted sports fan of the Dodgers and the Lakers. Additionally, he grew up playing bother baseball and football. He played baseball at Sunshine Little League and continued playing football in high school. Remawn always had a true heart for team sports and played softball on a community team names Meridian.

Remawn was called home to be with out Heavenly Father on Friday January 27, 2023. To celebrate and honor the life he lived, Remawn leaves one daughter, Jaslyn Waddell, his mother Diane Waddell, sister Diane (DeeDee) Waddell, and two nephews Noah and Jaceyon. He also leaves a host of other relative and many, many treasure friends.
