Verlena Gale was born on September 1, 1937, in the small town of Saline, Louisiana. She was the first child of Blumer and Darling Poland and the eldest of her siblings: David, Margaret, and Carrie.
Lovingly known as "Bean" a nickname given by her brother who couldn't quite pronounce Verlena – she carried that name with affection throughout her life.
The Poland family moved to San Diego, California in 1951. Verlena continued her education and nurtured her love for quilting, gardening, plants, and dressing beautifully for church.
Verlena was a devoted mother of eight. She began her journey with two children early in life and later welcomed six more, building her home and family on a strong foundation of love.
In time, Verlena shared her life with her beloved husband, Milton Gale, her partner and companion. Together they created a home filled with warmth, support, and family. Life was not without hardship. Verlena walked through loss with courage, having said goodbye to her husband before her own journey came to a close. Yet even in grief, she continued to nurture those around her - a living reminder of the power of perseverance and faith.
