Thomas Darnell Hammonds was born to Justice Thomas Eugene Hammonds and Mother Norvella Hammonds on November 25,1960 in Los Angeles, California. Thomas was the third child of four children.
Darnell, as he was affectionally called was a gentleman of many gifts and talents. He was an accomplished musician, performing with the Philharmonic Orchestra of San Diego, CA while attending Kearny high school. He played the cello and was always first chair, from middle school through high school. Darnell also played the French horn. Skillfully, he played in both the middle school and high school orchestra and marching band. In addition, Darnell held various offices in school and was an eager participant in the ROTC.
Darnell aspired to enter the medical profession all his young adult life, which led him to matriculate at San Diego State University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Darnell was a true go getter and while in pursuit of a degree in the medical profession, he held a position at Alvarado Medical Center in the radiology department as a radiologist for over 20 plus years.
Darnell attended Friendly Church of God in Christ under the pastoral leadership of his father Justice Thomas Hammonds. After the transitioning of his father to glory, he remained a member of the Friendly church family under the pastoral leadership of Pastor Morris Woods. Darnell served as the usher board president for many years and was the church soloist, known for his first Sunday rendition of “Give me my flowers while I yet live”. Darnell’s spiritual transition was June 29,2021 at 9:20pm. The noise of the world made it difficult for us to hear the sweet voice of the Lord, who whispered his name, therefore the story ends. Well! It is a chapter ended, and another page turned, a life well lived, and a rest well earned.
Darnell was preceded in death by his father, Justice Thomas Eugene Hammonds, his mother, Mother Norvella Hammonds, Grandfather Courtney Hammonds, Grandmother Annie Hammonds, Grandfather Otis Seay, Grandmother Leola Seay, aunt, Rose Mary Edwards, aunt, Helen Marie Mills, cousins, Cherrie Smith, and Clinton Clark III.
