Suzanne Serrano Calabia was born on February 28, 1966 in Kodiak, Alaska. She was the youngest of five children, Myrisse, Carlito, Jr., Belinda and Anthony, blessed to the union of Carlito and Corazon Serrano Calabia. Suzanne was the apple of her father Carlito’s eye, who preceded her in death. She received her formal education in San Diego, CA and attended various schools from Perry Elementary, Bell Junior High and Morse High School. She was raised in the Catholic Church and renewed her relationship with Jesus before going home to be with Him.
Suzanne was blessed with a beautiful baby girl, who she named Channa Tanoiya, born on October 27, 1985 from a relationship with Eddie Mitchell. She was a doting, young mother that loved and supported Channa without condition, her whole life. They relocated from San Diego to Van Nuys, CA in 1990 where Suzanne pursued her Accounting degree while raising Channa and taking care of her two nephews Trenton and Nicholas, sons of her brother Carlo. Eventually the three kids were school age and Suzanne began her career with Panavision where she flourished and became the Manager of Accounts Receivable, Credit & Collections. Suzanne became an invaluable asset at Panavision developing many professional and personal relationships over her 28 years tenure with the company.
Suzanne was very intelligent, quick-witted and funny. She was very loving and supportive but also very honest and straight to the point. She loved unconditionally and never judged people.. She was real to her core and anyone that knew her understood that everything she did came from a place of genuine care or concern, even if it wasn’t said with rainbows and unicorns. She lived in a way that she held herself accountable, making choices she was willing to live with. If she messed up, she was willing to admit it and was open to change. She was always striving , and expected others to do the same…to mto move forward. She always said, “At the end of the day, you have to determine what type of person you want to be”. Suzanne touched so many of our lives and left an impact greater than she could ever know. God called Suzanne home the morning of Thursday, September 14, 2023 at 9:20 am, surrounded by her loving family. And just in old Suzanne fashion, she departed this world on her own terms because even in her departure, things had to be done the way she wanted them done...so with her last strength and breath she embraced and blessed her family. She will be missed immensely every day because we loved her dearly, but God loved her best.
She leaves behind a lasting legacy with her mother Corazon Serrano of Las Vegas, NV; her daughter Channa Mitchell (Marvin), step-daughter Tanisha Andrus (Kevin), honorary daughter Briana Hicks; step-sons Edward Mitchell (Rachael), Joshua Dixon (Misty) and Toshmar Mitchell; grandsons Khaalid Thomas, Ryzhon McCoy, Mykah Mitchell, KJ Andrus, Derrick Banks, JJ Dixon and Miko Mitchell; granddaughters Anastasia ‘Nuni’ Hall, Ebiere Cunningham, Ravyn McCoy, Kaylani Sablan and Asialynn Mitchell all of San Diego, CA; brothers Carlo Calabia of Van Nuys, CA and Tony Calabia of Marina Del Rey, CA; sisters Myrisse Calabia of Van Nuys, CA and Belinda Calabia-Hiroshige (Stephen) of Portland, OR; nephews Jason Marcos (Adam) of Los Angeles, CA, Trenton and Nicholas Calabia of Van Nuys, CA, Evan Hiroshige of Portland, OR; niece Karina Hiroshige of Rochester, NY; and a host of other loving relatives and close friends that adored her
