Stuart Matthew Crump was born on April 17, 1930, in Jeffersonville, Indiana. He was loved at first sight,
and adopted by Mrs. Anna Bryant-Crump and Mr. Roy M. Crump.
Stuart then was adopted and raised by his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Josaphine and Frank
Crutchfield. Young Stuart was the apple of their eye, and they raised him spiritually with the loving presence
of God in their home. As a young boy, Stuart was baptized at the Gilt-Edge Baptist Church, in Jeffersonville,
Indiana. In 1948, Stuart graduated from Taylor High School, in Jeffersonville, Indiana. Taylor High School
was an All-Black, segregated High School. However, God had a purpose and plan for this young man. He was
a playing member of the Boys Basketball Team for four years. Stuart also attended the Indiana University
Extension College for two years, in Jeffersonville, Indiana. And although Stuart was highly gifted in art and
sketching; he never pursued this passion to the fullest extent.
In 1948, Stuart Matthew Crump met the love of his life, Ms. Wilma Jean Martin. Wilma was Stuart’s heart
flame, and on February 28, 1950, they were married. They celebrated seventy-three years of marriage, with
their birthdays just one week apart. The forever love that they shared together was an inspiration for all to
see. Stuart was always a working man, and a great provider for his family. He was employed at the Goodyear
Engineering Plant in Charleston, Indiana. Stuart also was employed at the Clark County Hospital; and was
on shift to experience the births of their three children. Gloria Jean Crump, Jacqueline Anita Crump, and
Gregory Matthew Crump, completed the Crump Family; as they continued to live in Jeffersonville, Indiana.
Mrs. Wilma Jean Crump was a member of the Howard Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, and Stuart
was a member of the Gilt-Edge Baptist Church. They raised their young family to love God and others.
Stuart sang in the Sanctuary Choir, and was a member of the North Star Masonic Lodge Number Three
for over fifty years. He received numerous awards for his participation and service. The family moved to
San Diego, California, in 1962. They became faithful members of the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church;
where Stuart was ordained as a Deacon, and became a member of the Board of Trustees. He retired after 29
years, from the San Diego Gas and Electric Company. In his own words, “he trusted God, trusted his heart,
and kept the faith.” We were blessed to sit at his feet for wisdom; and now, Stuart Matthew Crump is sitting
at the feet of the Lord.
Stuart has been preceded in death by his adoring wife, Mrs. Wilma Jean Crump; and his beloved son,
Dr. Gregory Matthew Crump. He leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted family. Daughters:

"I HAVE FOUGHT THE GOOD FIGHT, I HAVE FINISHED MY COURSE, I HAVE KEPT THE FAITH;
HENCEFORTH THERE IS LAID UP FOR ME A CROWN OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, WHICH THE LORD
SHALL GIVE ME AT THAT DAY: AND NOT ONLY TO ME, BUT UNTO ALL THEM ALSO THAT LOVE
HIS APPEARING.
II TIMOTHY 4:7-8
