STANLEY MAURICE NELSON was born June 6, 1951 in Detroit, Michigan to Dr. Nathaniel Washington Nelson and Lee Ella, both of his parents preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Dr. Pierre Nathaniel Nelson.
Stanley was raised in Cleveland, OH and his parents later relocated to Detroit, MI where he continued his education in the Detroit Public School system before joining the U.S. Navy in April, 1969. Stanley completed two tours of duty as an aircraft mechanic on the naval ship, USS Bon Homme Richard. While on active duty, Stanley served in the Vietnam War. Stanley received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. While serving his country, he met Gloria Parker. Stanley and Gloria married in September, 1972 settling down in San Diego, CA after an Honorable Discharge from service in June, 1974. Steven and Stanley Jr. were born to this union.
Stanley having an entrepreneurial spirit started his own computer technology business, “A+ Computer Technology,” after many successful years as a computer engineer in the corporate world.
Stanley’s love of music from childhood inspired him to become proficient in playing the bass guitar and producing music. He formed his music production company, “My Own Music Company” (now known as Ragga Blues Jingles, LLC). Stanley played professionally appearing with various bands, i.e. Ishmael & the Peace Makers, World Beat7, Stevie Nicks Tribute Band, etc. Stanley’s music can be heard on all the social media platforms.
Stanley loved fishing, creating music, spending time with his family, friends and cultivating the land. Stanley enjoyed having long conversations about music, family history, business and investing in how to better yourself. His favorite response when asked how he was doing was, “I’m better than I deserve.”
Stanley moved to Maui, Hawaii in 2005 to enjoy free-spirited living. He enjoyed hanging out with the natives on the beach participating in drum circles and watching fire dancers. One of his favorite places besides the beach was the local Wailuku Coffee Shop.
Stanley leaves to mourn his loving sons, Steven and Stanley Jr. (Chiffon), his sisters Altamease Nelson of Detroit, MI, Beth M. Tompkins (Joseph) of Brown Deer, WI, Nolita W. Nelson-Rice of Detroit, MI, brother Milford Nelson of Detroit, MI, a host of grand-children, nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends.
