REBECA LOCKMIER Obituary

MARIA REBECA AMELIA TAPIA was born on January 19, 1929 in Phoenix, Arizona.  She was the second of 5 children born to Adalberto E. Tapia and Amelia Duran.  She was affectionately called Rebecita by her mother and Becky by family and friends.  As a young teen, Becky lost her mother who she loved dearly, to an illness, leaving her to help raise her younger siblings as her father went to work to provide for the family.  She missed her mother dearly throughout the rest of her years.

Becky was baptized under Catholic faith June 1929 in the Parrish of the Immaculate Heart of Maria in Phoenix, Arizona, received her first Holy Communion at the age of 9, and later was initiated into full discipleship with Christ by the act of Confirmation.

Becky completed the sixth grade and then stayed home to care for her sisters and brother as her older brother went off to the Marines.  She loved her family dearly.

On December 23, 1949 at the age of 20 she married the love of her life, George Lockmier and soon moved to San Diego, California.  Becky worked for a while at a five and dime store in San Diego, but shortly after gave birth to her first child Rosemarie and became a stay at home mom.  She had 3 more children, Becky Ann, Laurie Lou, and George Albert Jr.  She lived for her children and dedicated all her time to raising them.

Becky had a passion for flowers and plants and had a beautiful rose garden in her back yard.  She nurtured all of her plants bringing gardens of beauty to her home.  She also loved dogs, German Shepherds to be precise.  Other hobbies included sewing, crossword and word search puzzles, the card game Crazy Eight, dominoes and watching soap operas and game shows.  A few of her favorites were “As the World Turns”, “Password” and the “Price is Right.”

On August 15, 1972, after 22 years of marriage her marriage came to an end.  Her heart was broken forever more.  She never remarried and gave everything to being a father and mother to her 4 children.  To make ends meet, she took work outside the home and began a job at Ratner’s warehouse as a seamstress.  After 20 years of service she retired.

Becky was preceded in death by her father, mother, brother Beto, sister Yolanda and grandson Joshua.

On Wednesday March 14, 2018 at 10:30 a.m., Becky was called home by her maker to joyously fly with the Angels to those loved ones who were awaiting her return. She leaves on Earth to carry on her legacy of love and joy, her children, Rosemarie Perez and husband Jose, Becky Piech, Laurie Laksme, George Lockmier and wife Patricia; seven grandchildren, Angelica, Stephanie, Andrew, Amanda, Diana, Ana, Lorelei; 3 great-grandchildren, Evan, Ava and Molakai; her sister Virginia, brother Rene, several nieces and nephews; Jim Mandoke, Sam Newbold, Hector Ruiz and many other dear loved ones.
