Reba Michelle Baldwin, a woman of extraordinary faith whose love knew no boundaries, put her God, her only child, her grandchildren, and her family first her entire life.
God graced this world with Reba M. Baldwin on February 26, 1949 as the second child of the late Reese and Ellaphine Jarrett. Reba was born and raised in San Diego, California along with her three siblings who she cherished dearly.
Reba attended Knox Elementary School, Gompers Middle School, and Abraham Lincoln High School where she excelled academically. At Lincoln, she was active in the Girls Athletic Association (G.A.A.), Concert Choir, and the Young Women’s Christian Association (Tri-Hi-Club). She was a proud Lincoln Hornet and a member of the graduating Class of 1967.
After graduating from Lincoln, Reba attended the University of California San Diego and graduated with honors receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology.
She also gave birth to her only child, Nichole, who was her everything. As a single parent, Reba was active and engaged in activities in which Nichole participated. Whether it was PTA or simply volunteering at various school events, you would find Reba all in and determined to give Nichole every opportunity possible to succeed.
Reba married the love of her life, Verlin Baldwin, who embraced Nichole as his very own child.
Reba had a successful professional career which started upon graduation from UCSD at Computer Science Corporation. In 1989, she joined the County of San Diego as a Personnel Officer and after several promotions she was appointed Regional Administrator for the Health and Human Services Agency. She retired from the County in 2010.
Upon retirement, Reba devoted her time to her precious grandchildren, Elon and Terry. She truly enjoyed the many memories she created with Elon and Terry. Whether it was reading books, riding bikes, playing games, or just laughing together, each moment brought joy to her heart and a smile on her face.
Reba enjoyed cooking, shopping, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. Later in life, she shared a very special bond and love with Earl Vaults.
Reba suffered from Lupus for many years but she never let it stop her. On Tuesday, May 30, 2023, Reba Michelle Baldwin went home to be with our LORD and she is now with Jesus, singing HIS praises and hearing the joyful sounds of heaven.
Reba leaves to mourn her passing her daughter, Nichole Collier, two grandsons, Elon Walker and Terry Collier Jr.; siblings Donna Foster (Wilbur), Reese A. Jarrett (Regina), and Myra Jarrett; nieces Mahlia Hurd, Jarrah Cupit (Scott), and Drew Jarrett; Nephews Wil Foster (Yvette), Michael Foster (Ann) and Jarrett Hurd; the Jarrett family of California and Montgomery, Alabama and the Smith family of Florence, Alabama; and a host of friends and former colleagues.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Lupus Foundation of Southern California.
