Phillip was born to Houston and Lue Eva Gonder on May 23, 1959, in Long Beach, California. As a child born into a military family, Phillip lived the first three years of his life in Japan and English was not his first language. The family returned to California and eventually settled in San Diego where he attended elementary, middle, and high school. Phillip was an only child however he happily accepted the role of little brother to his first cousins Essie and Jackie Swint. Phillip really enjoyed playing big brother to his second cousin Patricia Swint, sharing his interests in movie-going and trying out new restaurants.
Phillip played football for Point Loma High and was awarded a football scholarship to Bemidji Minnesota. He later transferred to Cal State Fullerton. His loving and comedic nature helped him meet lifelong friends Victoria, Kristi, and Michael a.k.a. "George". Michael and Kristi married after college and honored Phillip by naming him Godfather to their first child Breanna.
Phillip had many jobs throughout his working career. The one that brought him the most pleasure was working at the San Diego Blood Bank, where he felt he was doing something good and useful.
Phillip found ways to use his affinity for kitchen gadgets, recipes, reading, music, games, and electronics, to spark lively competitions between family and friends. Phillip's generous spirit touched countless lives. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.
