Oscar Allen Terry was born on February 4, 1932, in Basile, Louisiana. His loving and supportive parents M. Lourent and Nettie Thierry, loved their son along with his elder sister Edna and younger sister Rebecca Thierry. In Louisiana as an infant, he would ride on his mother's hip nursing while she worked. As child he picked cotton with his sister Edna and played games in the golden meadow fields. After moving to San Diego with his famlily as an adolescent boy he attended school in San Diego and graduated from Kearny High school in 1951 where he participated in track, golf and baseball.
After graduation he entered the Air Force and served three years. He then took classes at San Diego Jr College and received an AA degree. He began a career in the Aerospace private industry and retired from McDonnell Douglas after 28 years. After retirement he returned back to San Diego, volunteered to feed the homeless and worked at the Aerospace Museum in Balboa Park.
Allen was never married, nor did he have children however, he mentored and loved many young men and women throughout his life who referred to him as "uncle", "dad" and "pops" He was a Protestant and exercised his beliefs by helping others and working in the community.
As Allen entered the room he would greet you with "Como Tela Vu" and speak in French Creole or ask, "Did you bring Jack?". He was always the life of the party his infectious laugh and sense of humor would fill the room. His love for blues, jazz and gospel music was known by all that knew him. He would often play the piano with blues progression chords and sing a variety of song while plunking out the same chords and stomping one foot on the floor. He would kick his leg out and holler "Oww" the "Uhm" that would have all laughing, dancing and celebrating. He enjoyed visiting family and friends, going to baseball games, watching baseball and listening to jazz and blues while relaxing in his plush recliner and eating BBQ. If you knew him well, he would warn you and say, "I let one out", there was no shame in his communication.
On the early morning of May 27, 2024, on Memorial Day, staying true to his patriotic loyalty he was called by God to leave this earth after a short illness. He did not suffer long.
He will be greatly missed. He leaves to mourn his supporting and loving sister Edna B. Robinson and Niece Leah Robinson of San Diego, California. Nephew Orlando Coons of Nevada, Nephew Lourent Coons of San Diego, Niece Devon Howard of Florida, Cousin Paul Alexander Sr. of Arizona, Cousin Pastor Rocky Jordan Loyce Sr. of Temecula close family friend Billy Hudson of San Diego, and a host of many other family and friends.
