MONTRULA ELIZABETH BRAZWELL Obituary

Entered This Life…
Montrula Elizabeth Brazwell was the first child born, of seven, to the union of Damon W.
Brazwell, Sr. and M. Lois Spears-Brazwell on January 28, 1946 in Newport, AR.
She was raised in a Christian family, accepted Christ at an early age under the
guidance of the late Rev. T. W. Barnes and was baptized at First Baptist Church in
Newport, AR.

Montrula attended public school in Newport, AR. However, the family moved to
Paducah, KY during her Junior Year, where she continued her exceptional student
status. Montrula graduated in 1963 as the 3 rd ranked student because she had not
attended Lincoln High School for the number of semesters required by Kentucky Board
of Education Standards; otherwise, she would have been Valedictorian! She attended
Paducah Junior College for one year and then decided to join the United States Army
and received her basic training in Fort Riley, KS. She served from 1964 to 1967 and
was certified as a Medical Technician. Upon being honorably discharged, Montrula
moved to Milwaukee, WI and attended Marquette University before relocating to San
Diego, CA in 1969.

Montrula was employed for 15 years as an Operating Room Technician and a vital
member of the Open Heart Surgery Team at Children’s Hospital. She later went into
medical administration and retired from San Diego State University in 2010.
Montrula certainly marched to the beat of her “own” drum, but was never too busy to
gather up others on her journey. She always assisted family and friends and never met
a stranger. She will be remembered for her warmth, vibrant spirit, contagious smile,
refreshing candor, wit and unwavering dedication to her family and all of those she
came in contact with. She leaves behind a legacy of love, creativity and resilience.

Entered Eternal Life…
On Friday, April 25, 2025, Montrula entered into eternal peace. She was preceded in
death by her parents, Sister; Marilyn J. Brazwell-Brooks and Brothers; Douglas C.
