Merry Angelia Jones-Cooper was born December 20, 1960, in San Diego California. She was
the sixth of eight children born to Harvey Jones Sr. and Maxine Jones. She
graduated from La Jolla High School and San Diego Community College. After her
schooling she went on to work for Southwest Airlines for many years holding
various titles until branching out on her own. She worked as a Notary in Arizona and was
the CEO of G.E.M, Mobile Nail Technicians and Eye C U Apparel. Her dream was to
build companies her family could be proud of and carry on after she was called
home to be with the Lord.
With her Father, Rev. Harvey Jones Sr. as Senior Pastor and her Mother being the
First Lady, Angie spent many days and nights at the Church of the Loving God,
helping where she was needed. When Angie became a member of the church, she
was baptized by her Father. She eventually took on the role of choir director,
which she was very dynamic and passionate about. She believed you should praise the
Lord with all of your might.
Angie moved back to San Diego from Gilbert, Arizona in 2016 to assist her siblings
with caring for their aging parents. It’s been said that “to care for those whom once
cared for us is one of the highest honors and responsibilities.” She was a fierce
protector of her parents and sometimes gave too much of herself while caring for
them. Her devotion did not go unnoticed or unappreciated by her siblings nor her
parents.
Angie enjoyed spending quality time with her family, especially her sisters. When
you seen one you seen the others. Many called them, "The Three Musketeers". She
loved fashion as much as she loved her family, and she was determined no one
was going to look unkept for family gatherings. Despite everyone being
adults, she would often color coordinate the entire family’s attire for holidays and
events they all celebrated together. Everyone participated willingly or
begrudgingly, just because they loved her.
Angie also loved to write poetry and inspirational messages. Every Sunday she
would send out a family text message with words of encouragement or just to
simply say, I love you. If you did not respond you can believe she was going to call you
and say, “Here’s the thing; When I send you a message, I need you to respond so I
know that you’re okay.” She had a quiet presence about her, but she would move
mountains when it came to her faith and her family.
Her children were her most valuable possessions. She often spoke about how proud
she was of each of them and very grateful to the village that helped raise
them. If she could have given her children everything they desired and shielded them from
life’s trials and tribulations, she would have. She often worried and inquired about
them up until the Lord called her home on June 07, 2023, at her home at the age
of 63.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey Jones, Sr. and Maxine Jones,
sister, Jeanice Agnew and brother, Ronnie Jones.
She leaves to cherish her memory her life partner, Don Axt of San Diego, CA; one
daughter: Dr. Dawnette Waters (Nick) of Douglasville, GA; five sons: Da’Von
Joseph of Hattiesburg, MS; De’Angelo Joseph of Scottsdale, AZ; Da’Very Joseph of
Colorado Springs, CO; Do’Ral Sharpe (Adrianna) of Spring Valley, CA; and Ka’Lis
Johnson of Tempe, AZ; two sisters: Helia Jones-McFalls. (Bob), of Cabot, AR; Gaye
Jordan (Derryll ) of San Diego, CA; three brothers: Harvey Jones Jr (Doreen) of San
Diego, CA; Harvis Jones (Emmy) of Tacoma, WA; Hurvey Jones (Veronica) of San
Diego, CA and bonus sister/cousin June Sneed (Nette) of Groveland, FL; 8
granddaughters and 3 grandsons, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins,
family and friends that will mourn her passing.
