Mary was born on March 19, 1931 to Jesse and Matris Morris in San Diego. The eldest child of four brothers and two sisters. Mary attended the local schools in the San Diego Community culminating in her graduation from San Diego High School with the class of 1949.
Mary united with the Calvary Baptist Church at an early age and was baptized by the late Reverand S.M. Lockridge and stayed a devoted member. She joined the mission auxiliaries; junior and senior. She loved singing in the sanctuary choir. She often worked in the church reception hall and culinary section of the church. All under the direction of the beloved church elders. Calvary was a large part of her and her family’s life. She enjoyed her church family and church events and in later years she frequently attended New Life Baptist Church in Spring Valley.
Mary's devotion to Our Lord Savior and Jesus Christ was evident in her zeal for life and caring for others. Mary was steadfast in giving love and attention to her family and friends. She was a “natural sister” and the same to all she met.
Mary had a full work experience which included working for Robinsons May Department Store for over 15 years and then with Anderson Ragsdale Mortuary for another 30 plus years. She was a favorite of Mr. and Mrs. Ragsdale as well as their son Skipper all of whom truly enjoyed her tenure with the company.
Through her church activities and work with the mortuary Mary became well known in the community due to her standouts..her lengthy 14 carat gold overlaid nails, and striking jewelry. She never missed an opportunity to remind you of of it either.
The great loves of her life were her husband Paul, her daughters Mignon and Monique, and her grandchildren Jevon ,Danielle and Antonise. She enjoyed being "Aunt Mary Jane" to her many nieces and nephews.
On the morning of September 20, 2021 God called Mary home to join her Mother and Father, Jesse and Matris and beloved Daughter Mignon, Sister Bessie Tate, and Brothers Jesse Morris, Posey Morris, Chester Morris, and Howard Morris. Mary will be dearly missed and continue to live on forever in our hearts.
