Linda Johnson Clady was born to Albert Sr. and Sara Jane (Boatwright) Johnson in Youngstown, Ohio on December 30, 1948, the eldest of three children (Albert Jr. and Joy). She attended Warren Richie Elementary School and graduated from East High School in 1966 where she was homecoming queen and captain on the varsity cheerleading team. She soon after worked for the Ohio Bell Telephone Company. Not surprisingly, her career took to the skies when she was hired as a flight attendant by American Airlines in 1973. While flying for American she worked the domestic routes and she also appeared in several of its world-renowned “Doing What We Do Best” television commercials. Linda later moved to its international headquarters in Dallas upon her promotion in management of its Human Resource Department. After 22 years of dedicated and exemplary service, she retired from American and later worked in the same capacity for the Methodist Hospital of Dallas.
Linda was an active church member and was a certified lay minister within the Dallas community where she spoke at events and ministered with a heart of service to others in need. She later met and married the love of her life, Assistant Fire Chief Hershel Clady (Retired), on March 5, 1999. Shortly thereafter she moved to California to live with her new husband in Signal Hill and a few years later they settled in the nearby City of Long Beach.
No matter where she was or who she’d meet, Linda loved talking about where she came from-her beloved hometown of Youngstown, Ohio. In Long Beach, she spent her leisure time tending to her plants in her courtyard, shopping at Macy’s, dining at Delius restaurant with her husband, picking up her favorite Starbucks venti white chocolate coffee and engaging in especially good, long conversations. She and Hershel also traveled on Hawaiian and Caribbean on cruises, accompanied him at golf tournament events, and hosted poker parties and barbeques for family and friends.
After several years of enduring her battle and fighting her illness, she peacefully answered God’s call into his presence on July 3, 2018. Her beloved father Albert Johnson, Sr. preceded her in death.
She is survived by her devoted and loving husband Assistant Fire Chief Hershel Clady (Retired), daughters Chandra Clady and Cassandra Clady of San Diego, son Hershel Clady II (Melinda) of Lancaster, Texas, her mother Sara Jane Johnson of Youngstown, Ohio, a surviving Aunt Francis Allen of Youngstown, brother Albert Jr. (Francenia) of Goosecreek, South Carolina, sister Joy (Ralph “Stan”) Burton of Youngstown, sister-in-laws Dorothy Laverne Brazley, Charlotte Jackson, June Blacknell, Jadene McClanahan (Stanley), and Cathy Clady all from San Diego, brothers-in-law Marshall Clady of Rialto, CA, Jacob Clady Sr., Marvin Clady and William “Billy” Clady all of San Diego, and six grandchildren. She was also loved and will be dearly missed by her many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, neighbors and friends.
