LETEAMLAK HAJI YOHANNES

Leteamlak Haji, a beloved daughter, sister, mother, and dedicated member of her community, passed away on December 12, 2023. 

Born in 1959 in the serene village of Azafa in Keren, Eritrea, she was the cherished daughter of Haji Woldemicael and Kibereit Bere. Leteamlak was a pillar of strength and resilience for her family and friends. Driven by her determination to create a better life for her family, at the age of 15, Leteamlak embarked on a courageous path to pursue opportunities and attend seamstress school. Her journey led her through challenging times, seeking refuge in Sudan due to the turmoil of war. There, she worked tirelessly as a housekeeper, displaying unwavering resilience in the face of adversity. 

In 1988, Leteamlak married Mehari Tesfamariam, her husband and partner in life. Their love blossomed and continued to grow, so they seized an opportunity to move to the United States, in search of a home to plan their future. In San Diego, the couple embarked on the next and most meaningful chapter in their lives. On December 10, 1992, Leteamlak was blessed with the arrival of her beloved son, Yaffet Tesfamariam, whom she cherished and devoted herself too wholeheartedly. 

Passionate about nurturing young minds, Leteamlak dedicated over two decades to serving the community of City Heights. As a preschool teacher and cafeteria worker in the San Diego Unified School District, she touched the lives of countless children, leaving an indelible mark of kindness, compassion, and guidance. Leteamlak Haji will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family, her immense dedication to serving others especially the Eritrean community, her boundless humor and some might say her sharp tongue. Her legacy of compassion and selflessness will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her. 

Leteamlak is survived by her loving son Yaffet Tesfamariam, daughter Natsinet Tesfamariam, and siblings Stefanos, Andemariam, Mayhariete, and Letanegus who will carry her memory forward with immense love and admiration. 

In honoring Leteamlak's life, we celebrate her unwavering spirit and the profound impact she made on the lives she touched. May her humor, kindness and resilience serve as a guiding light for us all.
