Leonard Mapp Jr. was born on December 12, 1962, in Madison, Georgia, to Leonard Mapp Sr. and the late Dorothy Cox-Mapp. He attended Morgan County High School and proudly served in the United States Navy from 1981 to 1983. Following his military service, Leonard dedicated his life to spiritual growth and discipline as a Soldier in the Nation of Islam and a devoted follower of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad, and was given the name Leonard Muhammad. Leonard was known for his unwavering faith, strong moral foundation, and charismatic presence. He carried himself with conviction and lived by the principles he believed in. With a sharp wit and calm confidence, he brought lightness to serious moments while never compromising his integrity. On Wednesday, July 23, 2025, Leonard was called to eternal rest in San Diego, California, at the age of 62. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Cox-Mapp, and his sister, Diane Teressa Mapp. He leaves to cherish his memory, father, Leonard Mapp Sr.; children, Sabrin Muhammad, Safiyyah Muhammad, and Maryam Muhammad; grandchild, Milan Muhammad; siblings, Mary Alice Mapp-Glover, Christine Mapp, Juanita Mapp Turner, Darlene Mapp Lott, Oscar Mapp, and Marcus Mapp; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and friends. Leonard will be remembered for his faith, integrity, and the strength with which he lived his truth.
