We are deeply sorry for your loss - the staff at Anderson-Ragsdale Mortuary
Our beloved Mother, Sister, Friend, and Yaya passed away peacefully on Sunday June 19, 2022 after receiving her Last Rites. A proud San Diego native, Kathy was born April 9, 1947 and graduated from San Diego High School in 1965. Go Cavers!
She worked with the Department of Veterans Affairs (1970-2010) for 40 years and loved reading her Kindle, listening to Motown, going for walks, and spending time with her grandkids. She took her tea with six Splendas and three lemon slices.
Kathy is survived by her brothers Jimmy, Michael, and Donald Hurst; her two children, Rebecca Ontiveros Ensley and Martin Ontiveros; her child by heart, Modest Brown Trageser; daughter in-law Nancy Strange; and grandchildren Alex Trageser, Rebekah Ensley, Charles Ensley, Felix Ontiveros, Maya Rose Ensley, and Topiltzin (Tzino) Ensley.
Funeral mass will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church on July 12 at 11am, to be immediately followed by burial services at Holy Cross Cemetery. Reception to follow for close friends and family. Yaya asked us not to wear black. Please wear a bright color—she especially loved red—to celebrate the life and love that she shared with us all.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Rachel’s Women’s Center through the Catholic Charities of the Diocese of San Diego.
