June Duran Jones was born on December 23, 1955 to her
loving parents, Reverend LaSalle Jones and Johnnie Mae
Jones in San Diego, California.
She attended Baker and Knox Elementary Schools, Bell
Junior High and graduated from Lincoln High School.
June was a “Hornet for Life” and attended almost all the
reunions including classes before and after hers,
“Nevermore ’74”. Her most memorable times growing up
were spending time with her childhood and high school
friends. After graduating from high school, she took
classes at San Diego City College.
In April of 1977, June married and with this union her
daughter Jannell was born.
June held several administrative positions over the years
and many colleagues turned into lifelong friends. While in
San Diego, she worked at Merrill Lynch Wealth
Management and a couple of other companies before
relocating.
In 1991, June moved to Atlanta, Georgia in search of a new
start and equitable opportunities. While in Atlanta, she
worked for Xerox and The Coca-Cola Company. June
spent 21 years in Atlanta and met many friends who
turned into family.
After wanting to be closer to her daughter and
granddaughter in California, June decided to relocate
again and moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 2003. She
started work right away and spent 18 years at the
University of Nevada Las Vegas before retiring in October
2022.
June loved and enjoyed life to the fullest. She had a smile
and presence that would light any room. When asked what
best describes who you tried to be in life and how you want
to be remembered, June’s response was, “I want to be me.
I want to be remembered for the love I had for my child
and grandbaby and that I love the Lord with all my heart
and soul.”
June was called home on Wednesday, December 21, 2022,
just days before her 67 th Birthday. She leaves to cherish her
memory daughter Jannell M. Jackson, granddaughter
Bryanna Joi Banks (who she adored and was extremely
proud of), sisters Lois D. Jones and Edna Haygan (David),
a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and close
friends who became family.
Family members proceeding June in death include her
father Reverend LaSalle Jones, mother Johnnie Mae Jones
and sister Valerie Jones.
June was loved and will be missed by all who had the
pleasure of being in her life. June once kept a book with a
list of names, birthdates and phone numbers. She had an
infamous birthday song that she sang to those she loved. If
you were lucky enough to hear the birthday song, receive a
phone call from her on your birthday or given a nickname,
you were special to June. She was truly one of a kind.
