Jo Ellen Stewart (lovingly known as Jo, Mom, Little Sister, Grandma) was born in San Diego, California on January 9, 1950. She and her two brothers Jimmy and Rocky, and Mother Helen, lived in Linda Vista. Jo Ellen graduated from Kearny High School where she was a track star and enjoyed competing in sports. Jo Ellen worked as Lead Technician at Kyocera American Ink for 39 years. She retired in 2016 and in her retirement enjoyed reading, going to the movies, her TV shows, going to church, and going to the casino, and of course, being with her family. Jo Ellen was a believer, she gave her life to Christ and was baptized on January 1, 2017 with all three of her grand daughters by Pastor Barmer. She was a devoted member to Bright Hope Community Church. Jo Ellen’s life was defined by her love of family- her mother Helen was her mentor and best friend, her father David was her rock and her son and daughter James and Jaleesa were her pride and joy. James’ family NaTasha and the girls NaJa, NaLiyah and NaTrese filled her heart and soul daily as they lived their lives together celebrating every occasion, sporting events, amusement parks and many weekends together. Jo Ellen was a funny hot-tempered woman. She was strong-willed and very independent. Jo Ellen was a hard worker and liked her routines. She enjoyed telling stories about her partying days as a young woman, hanging with cousins Cathy, Snooky and Janet. Her heart swelled with pride as she watched her young family grow into wonderful loving and giving adults. Jo Ellen never missed her granddaughters, sporting events and was always ready to cook her famous mustard greens and turkey necks for her family whenever they asked. Jo Ellen is survived by David Tevis (father), oldest brother Jimmy Loyce and youngest brother Rocky Loyce, James Bailey (son), Jaleesa Stewart (daughter). NaTasha Bailey (daughter-in-law) granddaughters NaJa, NaLiyah and NaTrese Bailey- nieces Lynda Lee and Mattie Jo and nephew Bryan Loyce and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close family and friends. Her mother Helen Tevis, cousins Cathy and Stacy Cobbins preceded her in death. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all of us. She will be missed so deeply.
Love. A word that comes and goes, but few people really know,
What it means to really love somebody. Love, though the tears may fade away,
I'm so glad your love will stay, because I love you and you loved me....
