JAMES KNOXALL HUBBARD Obituary

James Knoxall Hubbard was the 5th of 12 children born to the late Rev. William Warren and Mrs.
Beatrice Brown Hubbard on July 19, 1939, in Lima, Oklahoma.
Early in the morning of February 11, 2023, James received a call from our departed Mother inviting
him to help celebrate her birthday, as it was her Special Day. He could not refuse his Mother, so he
said yes without hesitation. He said goodbye to his beloved wife, Alicia, his children, his
grandchildren, and all of his relatives and friends who he loved dearly.

James was named after his paternal grandfather, James Knoxall Hubbard, and he proudly reminded
us of where his name originated. His paternal grandmother, Cora Brison Hubbard, pleased that she
had a grandson named after her husband, doted on him with great affection, which he appreciated
greatly.

James was educated in the Public Schools of Lima and Douglas High School in Wewoka, Oklahoma.
He was a very bright young man who excelled in Literary Arts, especially poetry and literature. His
interest in Literary Arts, inspired him to begin writing a book as well as a book of poetry.
James continually looked for greater academic challenges, so he followed his older brother and
relocated in California. Soon after relocating in California, he decided to pursue a lifelong passion to
travel abroad. Once his travels abroad ended, he came back to California and settled in National City.
He still had an interest in pursuing a higher education and began attending classes at San Diego
State University, where his older brother had been a star football player. The athletic staff was aware
of the family connection and the potential talent and invited James to try out for the football team. He
looked back fondly on the experience and cherished the memories.

As a young man growing up at home, his family enjoyed his humor and his ability to read, memorize,
and recite prose. He was never intimidated by the length of a poem or story. The family was in awe of
the speed at which he could memorize lengthy poems, and they would sit mesmerized as he recited
them. He had an uncanny way of peaking the interest of anyone around him, especially his siblings.
As a life-long adventurer, James had many careers, but ultimately worked for and retired from the
Grayhound Bus Company.

James married Alicia Santos on May 16, 1995, in San Diego, California. To this union, one child
(Jazielle) was born.

James was proceeded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Alicia Santos Hubbard, of National City, California; two sons, Kirk Hubbard
(wife Denise) of Santa Rosa, California; Staff Sergeant Kenneth V. Hubbard (wife Jessica) of
Columbia, South Carolina; and one daughter, Jazielle Hubbard, of National City, California. He has
three grandchildren – Tatiahah May, Kenneth Warren, and Kali. He also left to mourn his lost, six
sisters (Lois Broussard and Vera Jones (husband Alfred), both of Gaithersburg, Maryland; Jean
Wright of Seminole, Oklahoma; Glynn Gantt of Wichita, Kansas; Ida Wright of Bowie, Maryland; Faye
Jones of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; and one Brother, Ural Bernard Hubbard (wife Minnie) of
Colorado Springs, Colorado; 11 nieces, 11 nephews and a host of cousins, great nieces, great
nephews, and friends.

Love a word that comes and goes
But few people really know what it means to really love somebody
Love though the tears may fade away
I'm so glad your love will stay....because I love you.
