James D. Henderson was born on May 07, 1935 in Geneva Alabama to the late Rosa Lee Thomas, and T.
Y. Henderson. He was the middle son, and was preceded in death by older sister Liddie Mae Henderson-
Bouie, and survived by younger brother Ronnie Jasper Henderson.
James D. Henderson met his wife Margie Betty Jean Jones-Henderson and married on August 5 th in 1962
in Winterhaven California in Imperial County. Margie preceded him in death on May 10 th , 2014. There
union was blessed with four children.
James Henderson’s nick name was “Hendo” all those who loved called him that. James always was a
sharp dresser, had fancy suits, and loved his Stacey Adams shoes. James and Margie enjoyed trips across
the country visiting family in Louisiana, Alabama, and New York with Cheryl being the Chauffeur for
these long trips. James loved to cook, and always willing to give food to anyone in his life. James favorite
dishes were Collard Greens, Pig Feet, and BBQ anything. James and Margie hosted many parties and
events at their home and everyone was welcome.
James D. Henderson joined the United States Navy in 1958. James Retired from U. S. Navy in 1972.
While serving the U.S. Navy James was awarded Vietnam Service Medal, and Armed Forces
Expeditionary Medal (Taiwan). When James Henderson retired, he became Reserve San Diego County
Police Officer until he went to work as a Civil Service Employee as a pipe fitter for public works in Point
Loma California.
James D. Henderson was a faithful member of Mount Erie Baptist Church for over 50 years. James also
worked in the church parking lot faithfully until his health began to decline several years ago. James
Henderson was also the head cook at Mount Erie Christian Academy for many years.
James Henderson was a Past Master raised a Master Mason in Gustavus A. Thompson #79 on November
11 th 1975 he served as the Worshipful Master for the year of 1984, and earned the title of Past Master,
and he was faithful member of Gustavus A. Thompson #79 for 46 years. In addition, James Henderson
was also a member of Ada B Cleveland Chapter #71 in 1981 Order of Eastern Stars where he served as a
past Associate Patron in 1987. James was also a Worthy Patron in 1988. James Henderson joined San
Diego Consistory #91 on 02/29/1980 he was elevated to 33 Degree in October in 1990. Noble Henderson
became a noble of the Mystic Shrine on July 26, 1980 he achieved the title of Past Potentate after
successfully completing the requirement of being a Rabban and actual Potentate Temple Number #102

James D. Henderson was called home on August 13 th , 2022. James is survived by his brother Ronnie
Jasper Henderson Rochester New York, and children are David Lover (Sherretta) of Goodyear Arizona,
James D. Henderson Jr.(Janet) of San Diego, Cheryl Wilson of San Diego, and Toni Henderson of San
Diego. James also has 3 sister in laws Aldean Ford of Sacramento CA, Exetta Lemons of Utah, Wilhelmina
Jones of Las Vegas Nevada, and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and also many nieces and
nephews.
