ISRAEL MURRY Obituary

Israel Murry was born in Whiteville, Louisiana on May 26, 1928 to the proud parents Leon and Lonnie Harris Murray.

He accepted Christ as his personal savior at an early age. He joined the United States Navy in 1946 where he proudly served his country. He received his Honorable Discharge in 1949 in San Diego, CA. He continued his employment with the U.S Government Civil Service and worked on North Island in heavy equipment transportation. He additionally owned his own Janitorial business.

It was 1953 in San Diego that he met his soul mate, Estella Murry. They were united in holy matrimony on March 4, 1956. Together they raised 4 children. Both his wife, Estella, and their son, Oscar, preceded him in death.

In the mid 1950’s Israel and Estella united with Calvary Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. S.M. Lockridge, where they raised their children. He served in many capacities during his tenure and was a faithful member until his passing.

He was a daily dose of love and comfort to everyone he came in contact with. He was gentle, soft spoken and kind; he was a beautiful soul. He loved family gatherings, fellowship and cherished life and friendships. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend. He had a passion for fishing and hunting with his sons and grandsons. He lived in his home for 58 years and was given the honorary name “Mayor of Dafter Dr”, because he could always be seen sitting in his office (garage) ready to engage with anyone who ventured by. He had stories to tell and could keep you entertained for hours. He loved to laugh and he loved to make you laugh. He had the best smile and was loved by family and friends.

Having been blessed to live 95 years, he leaves to celebrate his life and cherish his memories his daughter Janice Murry Hare, of Wildomar, CA, two sons Darryl Murry (Nancy) and Eric Murry (Lisa) of San Diego, CA; three sisters, Verdia Skinner and Geraldine Gardenhi both of Missouri City, TX and Catherine Lewis of Lake Charles, LA; nine grandchildren, Bay Shay, Kathy, Johnna, Ashley, Nathaniel, Kendall, Andre, Jasmarie and Jewell; eleven great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends who will cherish his memories.
