HARDY BRASWELL III
August 10, 1946 ~ January 5, 2024 (age 77) 77 Years Old
Hardy Braswell III was born on August 10, 1946, to Cora Braswell and Hardy Braswell, Jr., in Birmingham, AL. The youngest child and only son, Hardy's older sisters took all the opportunities to spoil their baby brother. Even amid the spoiling though, Hardy's parents instilled in him qualities and character traits that he carried with him throughout his life. After graduating from High School, Hardy attended college at Alabama State and played football until he was called by Uncle Sam. He joined the Marine Corp and was sent to Vietnam. Hardy remained in the Marine Corp for 13 years and then decided to join what can only be called "the family business". He went back to school, completed his degree and became a nurse, following in the footsteps of his mother and both
He met his wife Karen when she moved to San Diego to attend UCSD. Hardy and Karn were together for over 40 years and were married for almost 38
years. He was her partner and the love of her life. They raised 2 sons, Christopher and Corey, with all the usual childhood events of little league, soccer and non-stop activities. Hardy and Karen's faith was tested when Christopher was diagnosed with lung cancer and passed away in 1999. God used this to make their relationship even stronger and they set their efforts on raising Corey.
Hardy and Karen found a home at Gateway Church in 1999 and immersed themselves in serving. Hardy joined the ranks of AWANA, first as a leader of 3rd through 6th grade boys, moving next to Jr. High and then as Director of the High School ministry. Later, Hardy facilitated Sunday School and a small group bible study in their home. One of his favorite things though was Greeting on Sunday mornings with Karen. He recently took up the mantel again at College Ave, facilitating the Life Group for Sr./Empty Nesters.
Hardy was a loving and compassionate man, who spent years being a friend to everyone he met.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Cora and Hardy Braswell, Jr., and son, Christopher Braswell. He is survived by his wife Karen and children, Karlton Richardson, Erice Braswell, Dawn Miller (Lew), Gwendolyn Braswell and Corey Braswell, as well as a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He will be missed here on earth but is at home with Jesus.
have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
