GARRY LINK McCUE Obituary

On July 25, 1959, Garry Link McCue began his journey down the road of life, cradled in his mother’s arms as she whispered, “You are my baby for now, but will be my son forever. Welcome, our third son and fifth child.” He was the fifth of seven children lovingly welcomed into the family of Marshall L. McCue and Minnie L. Jones-McCue. Garry’s life was shaped by passion, humor, and a spirit of adventure. A proud graduate of Lincoln High School, he pursued his dreams with bold determination, venturing far beyond his hometown. He moved to St. Paul, Minnesota, where he studied at the John Roberts Powers School and completed professional modeling courses—an important step in launching his fashion industry career. Never one to be confined, Garry later embraced the open road as a professional driver for Greyhound Bus Lines. This role allowed him to forge connections with people from all walks of life, discovering the country one mile at a time. His vibrant personality and infectious humor made him the heartbeat of family gatherings. With an effortless charm, Garry lit up every room he entered. His love for laughter carried him onto the stage at the Comedy Club, where his sharp wit and magnetic presence left a lasting impression. Garry was the proud father of two daughters: the late Barbara Shauntel McCue-Fleming of St Louis, Missouri, and Qadira McCue of San Diego, California. He was a loving grandfather to Keashean G. Fleming, Cheyanne S. Fleming, Cyness R. Fleming, and a great-grandfather to Yanez Ahmir Fleming. He is remembered by his devoted mother, Minnie L. Jones-McCue; brother Marshall L. McCue of Virginia; sisters Mary A. Rockett, Phyllis Lumpkin, and Susie Childs of San Diego, California; and by a wide circle of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends. Though we part for now, Garry’s memory will remain forever in our hearts. On July 10, 2025, Garry was celebrated home by loved ones who preceded him in transition: his father, Marshall L. McCue; brother Herman L. Jones; sister Norma Jones; and daughter Barbara Fleming. They celebrated him home with joy, saying, “Welcome in, mine child, brother, and father—we are overjoyed you made it in.”

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
