Frances Moten brought love, joy, and humor to every life she touched for 85 years.
Born Frances Jewel Brown on October 26, 1938, in Lockhart, a small town just south of Austin, Texas, she lost her mom very early in life. She grew very close to her father, Guy Brown, who taught her how to live selflessly and lovingly. Frances had one living sibling at the time of her passing, Herbert Brown, who now lives in San Antonio. She also had two other brothers, Marcus and George, and two sisters, Joyce and Velma.
Frances married the love of her life, Eli Moten Jr., a member of the U.S. Navy, on August 15, 1959. They had three wonderful sons, Ronald (Rhonda), Everett, and Jeffery (Tarra), who cherished their parents. Although, as a young mother, Frances worked at a local school, she spent most of her time raising the children, as Eli spent much time overseas, including serving in Korea and Vietnam.
Frances, Eli, and their children moved from Texas to San Diego in 1966. Once the children grew and started families of their own, Frances and Eli’s grandchildren—Noell (Chris), Aleah, Ronald Jr., Miles, and Pierce—brought renewed joy to their lives. Frances continued to live in San Diego following Eli’s passing in 2012. In addition to her children and grandchildren, she leaves a sister-in-law, Rena Davis; a great grandchild, Leo; nieces Nina (Tony) and Brenda, and a host of other family and friends.
As a member of New Creation Church of San Diego, Frances enthusiastically served the Lord and her community. Over the years, she was involved as a mother of the church and a member of the Willing Workers Ministry, providing aid, comfort, solace, and spiritual support to the families of bereaved and ailing congregation members; the Greeter Ministry, welcoming members and guests to the church; and the 50-Plus Ministry, promoting and developing spiritual growth, peace, love, and a willingness to serve among seniors within the church and throughout the community.
On August 5, 2024, God called Frances to His Heavenly Kingdom, where she may feel His comfort and love forever more.
