FLORA DEAN (NORWOOD) HILL

On Friday, December 29, 1950, Flora Dean Norwood - Hill, affectionally known as “Gaga” was born unto Cornelius and Flora Norwood in Rusk, Texas. She would be the fourth of six children blessed to their union.

Shortly after her birth, in 1951, the Norwood family relocated from Rusk, Texas to San Diego, California. As children, Flora and her siblings loved spending hours playing together outside as well as helping their mother in the kitchen. The Norwood’s attended church regularly and at an early age Flora Dean made the decision to give her life to Christ and upon confession of her faith was baptized, and joined New Bethel Baptist Church. Flora Dean was educated in the local school district, attending; Valencia Park Elementary, O'Farrell Middle School and graduated as a proud hornet with a diploma from Lincoln High.

Flora Dean met and was courted by Herbert Hill and on December 14th, 1968 they were united in holy matrimony. Soon after her first son Keith Hill would arrive in April of 1969. Her second son, Herbert Hill II, would arrive February of 1971 and then a third son, Herbert Hill III, would round out the trio in July of 1977. Anyone that knew her, knew that her heart and life were dedicated to her boys and their happiness.

As a career woman, she entered into the grocery business, as a butcher and after 30 years of dedicated service she retired to enjoy life. She had a love of cooking and gathering the family together. When it came to a bargain…Flora Dean was there!! You could ALWAYS find her at the 99 Cent Only store loading up her basket. She was also a regular at the casino and anywhere shopping was made available, often with her sister Joy Faye at her side and always finding something to bring home for Herbert and Maurice.

Flora always looked forward to returning to her roots in Texas making frequent trips back home to visit family, friends and associates all the while reminiscing on days gone by. Those visits are going to be dearly missed.

Ms. Flora Dean Hill departed this life on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 in her home surrounded by her loving family in Murrieta, California. Waiting at the gates of heaven to welcome her in were her parents; Cornelius and Flora, Son, Herbert Hill II, Siblings; William, Denise, Howard, and Joy Faye. Nephew, Demond and Niece, Charmayne. Left to mourn her passing yet celebrate her love are her two Sons; Keith (Princess) Hill, and Herbert Hill III; Sister, Shirley Norwood-Scott, Five Grandchildren, Maurice Hill, Kyora Hill, Charlynn Hill, Alex Wiley, and Amar Wiley. One great-grandson, Alex Wiley Jr. as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends whom will all miss her dearly.
