Darsie Hays Obituary

Darsie Charles Hays was a quiet, loving, and adventurous man. He was born July 30,1940 in Snowflake, Az, a town so small if you blinked you would miss it. His parents traveled for work and lived out of a tent for the better part of his toddler years. In the mid-1940s, he moved to San Diego, where he spent the rest of his life, besides the few years he spent in Germany while serving in the military. Darsie was truly fond of his time spent in Germany, creating memories and experiencing the culture. As many of us know, Darsie was a man of few words, but he somehow always made his feelings clear.

He met his wife, Vivian, at the Flinn Springs Inn, one two-steppin evening. They were married June 7, 1986. He learned about Jehovah from his wife, who was constantly talking about the Bible to those around her. His nickname for her was “Dial A Prayer”. After years of being married, one evening Darsie walked out of the closet clean shaven, with a suit on, ready to go to meeting. When his wife asked him if he was coming, he didn’t say a word but just gave a smile. From then on, he never quit going. He began studying the Bible with Dave Neal, not only establishing a love for Jehovah but also creating a lifelong friendship with Dave. Darsie was baptized in December of 1999, at the Escondido Assembly Hall. Darsie found much joy in table witnessing at the airport, with the brothers and sisters he loved so much.

There were many things that Darsie loved; playing cards with his friends, going to the desert, shopping for cars on Craigslist (even if he wasn’t buying one), and two-stepping to country music. Even as time went on, he never let his age slow him down; from riding quads, driving dune buggies, and ziplining through the jungle of Costa Rica at the prime age of 75.  More than anything though was his love for his family, and it’s a good thing because there was a lot of them

He is survived by his wife, eight children, and many grand and great grandchildren. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, he loved getting to spend time with them whenever he had a chance. He passed away May 4, 2018, with family and friends by his side.
