Delores Thompson Black passed away peacefully into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior,
Jesus Christ, on Friday, November 8, 2024, at her residence in San Diego, CA. She was 81. She

she married her childhood sweetheart Howard Linwood Black Jr. (who preceded her in death) on
December 23, 1963, in Kinston, North Carolina. In 1965, Delores accepted Christ as her Lord
and Savior under the leadership of Elder Patrick in Hampton, Virginia.
She was a devoted mom and grandmother to Howard A. Black, Briscoe T. Black (who preceded

In 1972, Howard and Delores moved their family to Long Beach, California, due to Howard’s
naval military transfer then they moved to San Diego in 1974, and that is when Delores started
her career in the nursing and medical field. She also became a member of the Temple of Christ
Church under the leadership of the late Pastor David and First Lady Fannie Barreau when it was
located on Logan Ave. in San Diego. She was the Sunday School Superintendent. In 1975, she
obtained nursing assistant training and started working in skilled nursing facilities. In 1980, she
began working for the county of San Diego. She challenged the state boards to become a
Psychiatric Technician and continued to work for the county for 15 years. She attended San
Diego City College and received her Licensed Vocational Nursing Certificate and her Associate
of Science in Nursing. She became an RN in 1996, working for the county jails, clinics, and
hospitals. Taking care of psychiatric patients. She retired from the county after working 20 years
and continues to serve the community as an Ombudsman for the elderly. She was a caring and
loving woman who put God first in her life. She encouraged her children to love one another and
to care for others. And most importantly, have God in your life. She loved to cook for her family
and friends and enjoyed listening to gospel music. She also loved taking care of others.
Delores is survived by her sisters, Doris Jean Walker (Florida), Bernice Sights (Georgia), Ruby
Crawford (Florida), Hakima Muhammad (Virginia), her brother, Garland Thompson, Jr. (North
Carolina), and nieces and nephews.
Delores is preceded in death by her sisters, Mamie Ruth Mitchell, Barbara Ann Thompson, Joyce

and Gaylord Thompson.
Her legacy will carry on forever, reminding us that God is in control and that we can live a life of
meaningful acts of love and service, like Christ modeled for us.
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
