DAVID CHARLES FREUND

David Charles Freund, 55, of San Diego, California, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2019 at UCSD Hospital-Hillcrest.  He was born on July 10, 1964 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Robert and Doris (Morris) Freund.  Dave is survived by his five children, Kathleen, Brian, Kevin, Sydney, and Mason Freund.  Dave is also survived by his brothers, Wayne Freund and his wife Barbara, Alan Freund and his wife Monalisa, his sister, Carol Freund Hoffman and her husband Hal, and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Dave spent his childhood in the Pittsburgh area and attended Thomas Jefferson High School in Pleasant Hills, Pennsylvania.  Dave enlisted in the United States Navy and retired in 2010 as a Senior Chief after 26 years of honorable service.  During that time, he held different positions, including Aviation Electrician and Senior Chief Flight Engineer.  While in the Navy, he spent time in Japan, Spain, Italy, the Caribbean, and South America and lived in many locations, including Jacksonville, Boston, Philadelphia, and San Diego, among others. 

After retiring in San Diego, Dave continued to work at VR-57 in Coronado with TSM, followed by SeaWorld, General Atomics, and CAS.  He was fortunate to live a quarter of a block from the beach with his two youngest children and dogs.  He could often be found at the soccer fields cheering on his children, spending time on his front porch, enjoying the weather and the company of his neighbors, and rooting for the Steelers and Penguins.  Dave was known for his easy laughter and sense of humor. 

Dave’s family would like to express their thanks for the excellent care and attention Dave received from the medical staff at UCSD hospital at the end of his life.

A military funeral honors service will be held on January 23, 2020 at 11:30 a.m. at Miramar National Cemetery, located at 5795 Nobel Drive, San Diego, California 92122.  Please arrive at 11:15 a.m.
