DANIEL "DANNY" KEITH WILLIAMS

DANIEL KEITH WILLIAMS was born in San Diego, CA on June 12, 1974 to the late Robert Williams who preceded him in death and Lera Williams. His parents affectionately called him “Dan”, and his older sister Pamela, would called him “Lil Bro”. In 1994, the family received another son Andre Kirkendoll, whom was known as “Big Bro”.

Daniel received his formal education through the San Diego City School System. He attended Valencia Park Elementary, Keiller Middle School, and graduated from Samuel F. B. Morse High School with the “Class of 1992”, where he played football under the former Coach John Shacklett. Daniel received many acknowledgments and awards: 1990 - San Diego Tribune “All-Academic Team” ( Student / Athletes); 1990 - First team “All League Offensive Player”; 1990 – CIF Champs 3A Division; 1991 Offensive Lineman of the year”; 1991 – The Golden Football Award.

As a result of his skills of being quick on his feet and having that long reach with his arms, Daniel received a full scholarship tot Fresno State as a defensive end player. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminology with options in Corrections. He also received acknowledgements while attending Fresno State (“No Dogs Down!!!”). 1992 – Coach Sweeney “Defensive Scout Team” Award; 1992 – WAC (Western Athletic Conference) Champions; 1993 – WAC (Western Athletic Conference) Champions.

As a young child he was active in various sports. He played baseball for the Encanto Boys Club, basketball and Pop Warner Football for Valencia Park. He never got the chance to play Mighty Mite because of his size; he started out as a Jr. Pee Wee at the age of eight.

After graduating from college, Daniel worked at New Alternatives Program as a child care worker, and then later for CDCR (California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation) as a Correctional Officer, where he was employed for 13 years.

Daniel had many hobbies. He loved to fish, and we all knew he had a strong passion for music. He started out making mixed tapes in high school. He later started making mixed CDs and to being the owner of his business: “Throwback City Back City Productions” specializing in old school music. He made sure that  

the majority of the music he played his mother could listen to and not be offended. He also enjoyed going to concerts and taking his many weekend getaways to attend musical events. You would often see him by himself or with his selective road dogs. Daniel also enjoyed conversing about politics and reading black literature.

His motto was “although I’m not playing sports; I gotta keep fit and exercise”. He would workout faithfully at the YMCA every morning, followed by a quick stop at Starbucks in the Market Creek Plaza.

Every morning he would drink his vinegar and honey and a cup of green tea. In addition to that, he would eat at least three boiled eggs every morning for his protein and a banana. His mother would say “Boy! We need a cow, a couple of chickens, and a banana tree in the backyard”.

Daniel accepted Christ at a young age under the leadership of the late great Pastor Harvey W. Jessie of the Greater Israelite Church of God in Christ, where he was taught “Regardless of what others do Holiness is right”. This phrase was instilled in him and to everyone that attended “Israelite”. In 1995, Daniel and his family became members of Faith Chapel Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Bishop Roy Dixon who later consulted with God and his council and decided to pass the responsibilities of being a pastor to the then Elder Terrell Fletcher and his current congregation. As a result of the merge, the name changed to The City of Hope International Church as many wonderful things transpired; the then pastor is now Bishop Terrell Fletcher.

Daniel was the faithful, sound man for the eight o’clock Sunday services at C.O.H.I. He just recently DJ’d their annual church picnic, and the Men’s Health Expo.

Daniel would offer his services when needed and he would definitely let you know when he couldn’t do it.  His sister would often tell people don’t ask him “do you feel like it” because he will tell you “No” you had to ask “Can you please” or “would you please”.

On the late afternoon of Tuesday, June 26, 2018, the Lord called Daniel home with his mother by his side when he took his final breath.

Daniel leaves to cherish his memory: his mother, Lera Darby (George), sister, Pamela Williams; god-parents, Elder John and Meliann Burns; sister-in-love, Karen Belin (Maurice); bonus-brother, Andre Kirkendoll (Leliah); one nephew, two nieces, three great nieces, four god-brothers, and seven god-sisters, and a host of extended family and friends to celebrate his life.
