Carmen Carrillo Vertiz

Carmen Carrillo Vertiz, 97, of San Diego, California passed away peacefully on August 13, 2020.  

Born on May 18, 1923 in Randsburg, California she was the daughter of the late Cirilo Carrillo and Severa (Lopez) Carrillo.  Carmen was one of seven daughters. Her sisters who preceded her in death were Evangelina, Cleotilde (Tillie), Anita, Eloisa, Concha, and Josefina. 

 Carmen met her late husband Gustavo Vertiz Sr. at a dance in Reedley, California and they were married for over 67 years. They were blessed with four sons: Frederic (Kathy) of Glendale, Arizona, Gustavo Jr. (Elena) of San Diego, CA, Arturo (Rita) of Sacramento, CA and Carlos of San Diego, CA.  Carmen and Gustavo Sr. were further blessed with a large family of 15 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren, 8 great -great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, godchildren, and longtime friends.   

Carmen loved gatherings at her home with the family and friends. She enjoyed spending time outside in the garden, reading, watching sports, phone calls with grandchildren and sharing family stories. She believed in spiritual prayer and was an active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in San Diego. As a member of the Sociedad Protectora Feminil organization she found friendships, participated in community and social activities. She also served as the Treasurer for over 10 years. As longtime residents of San Diego, Carmen and her late husband Gustavo Sr. were loved by their neighbors for their caring and helpful ways.  

The Vertiz family wishes to thank everyone for the beautiful cards, flowers, and phone calls. In this time of limited gatherings, please remember Carmen in your prayers and rosaries.
