It is with loving memory that we honor and celebrate the life and legacy of Carl Edward Jackson.
A servant leader at heart, Carl Jackson was the second of three children born in Brownsville, Pennsylvania, to Clarence and Sara Jackson. It was in Brownsville that he also found the love of his life, Eula Mae Jackson, whom he was married to for 54 years.
After graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard. His enlistment took him to several locations in the United States and Europe before arriving in San Diego. After serving in the military, Carl began working for the City of San Diego and, shortly thereafter, began attending San Diego State University. Upon graduating with a degree in business finance, he started his own business venture, Red Carpet Realty, where he was the first African American to purchase this franchise in San Diego.
A year after opening his business, Grace Temple Church moved in next door. Carl and Eula joined and became actively involved under the leadership of the late Bishop Charles L. Taylor. They continued their involvement and worked in the ministry for over 30 years, including through the merger of Grace Temple and Apostolic Faith Temple Church. He most notably served as a Sunday School Teacher at Apostolic Faith Temple, Sunday School Superintendent and college-level faculty in real estate at San Diego City College, all while running a business.
After moving his office to National City, he became a well-known fixture in town and was elected president of the National City Chamber of Commerce in 2003. Around the same time, he pivoted from a very successful Real Estate sales career to Regional Vice President at Primemerica. Carl was a consummate entrepreneur who advocated for businesses. Because of his courage, determination, and the favor of God, his business endeavors thrived.
In 2012, Carl was led to join Abundant Life Apostolic Church in Temecula, founded by Pastor Jimmie Gidron, where he served as Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Superintendent, Choir Member, Minister, and Director of the Men’s and Brotherhood ministries, and then became Associate Pastor in 2015. In 2016, Carl fully endowed a scholarship in his father’s name to make a lasting impact on the lives of deserving students enrolled in the UMOJA program at MiraCosta College. The scholarships will be given year after year in perpetuity.
Carl loved attending auctions and estate sales during his free time, as he was an avid art collector. He also liked watching old cowboy movies and fishing, especially deep-sea fishing, and also enjoyed playing basketball and swimming at the Jackie Robinson YMCA.
Pastor Carl Jackson was preceded in death by his wife, Eula Jackson, and son Harry Edwards. He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving sister Doris, and her husband, William Peoples of San Diego, California; son Frederick Watson of La Mesa, California; grandchildren, Salem and wife Anja Edwards of Germany, Pia Price of Vista, California, Nikki Fish of Portland, Oregon, Chantal and husband Rashid Shabazz of Phoenix, Arizona, and Joi and husband Arthur Jenkins of San Diego, California; Brother-in-law Charles Brown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, church family members, friends, and colleagues.
