Beulah Veronica Galathe was born on October 9, 1946 to the proud parents, William Galathe and Melvina Lydia Galathe. Beulah wasn’t the only child born that day. She was the second born of twins. She arrived just minutes after her twin sister Beverly. Beulah was the 8th child born to the Galathe Family. Beulah grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana, where she attended school. As a young adult, she migrated to California to join her sister Beverly, who was the first to move to San Francisco, Ca. Beulah eventually settled in San Diego, Ca, where she met and fell in love with Richard Stanford, a 20 year career Navy man. He was the love of her life. They were inseparable until his death. Beulah never remarried. Although there were no biological children from their union, she took her younger sister Wanda under her wing and unofficially “adopted” Wanda’s middle boy Versil. She raised him as her own while doting on the rest of Wanda’s family. Kind, humble, generous, hard working, mild mannered, with a streak that didn’t take no stuff! These were some of the traits of our mother Melvina, and Beulah didn’t fall too far from the tree.
Beulah was creative to a fault. For a short time, she ran her own Business called, “It’s A Swag Thing.” She designed beautiful swags wreaths for the home and created beautiful pottery. She was an impeccable seamstress and eventually carried these skills to the retail business. She was the manager of the Housewares Department for the now defunct Broadway Department Stores. She won various awards for the success of her department.
Beulah was an animal lover at heart. She raised several dogs and cats, and even fed the neighborhood animals.
She was preceded in death by her Beloved Mother, Mrs. Melvina Galathe, and Father, William Galathe. Her Precious Beloved Husband, Richard Stanford. Two Beloved sisters; Virgin Crumbley and Betty Jean Asmore and brothers, Felton Walters and John Stevens Galathe. Several nephews and 3 Beloved dogs, Lola, Bogey and Tina.
She leaves to mourn Seven sisters: Shirley Galathe, Melvina Sexton, Alfreda Galathe, Olivia Metoyer, Beverly Franklin, Wilma Theresa Galathe and Wanda Melson. Her Nephew, Versil Milton, and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, colleagues and, last, but not least, her Precious Companion for over 10 years, her little Poodle “ Bo.”
Beulah, will Be truly missed, but will be a welcomed member of The Heavenly Kingdom!
