Sarah Alice was the only child to Eujane and Phillip Houston of Savannah, Georgia. She was raised by her grandparents Frank and Alice Hargrove, in Augusta, Georgia. Sarah Alice attended Silas X Floyd school where she and the God Father of Soul, James Brown were class- mates. She loved telling stories of how they both got in
trouble for using “bad” words, which he taught her.
After high school she married Lenord McBride Jr. While in Augusta, this union was blessed with Frank(Delo) and
Linda. In 1950 the Navy relocated the family to San Diego, Ca and here Alice gave birth to Donald, Deborah and Lenord(Pumpy).
Alice was a dedicated employee at NAS North Island for over 50 years working as an electrician on planes and helicopters. She loved explaining the tools she used from her toolbox. Because of her long hours and commitment to her job, she was able to enjoy her favorite past time, which was playing games of "chance". Whether it was horses, dogs or slot machines, she loved them all! Alice had a kind and generous heart, and when she hit it "big" she was overjoyed to share her winnings with her family. Her door was always open with a welcoming smile, no one was a stranger.
Preceding her in death were Lenord Jr, Lenord III(Pumpy) Linda and Deborah. Sarah Alice McBride will be fondly remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great- grandmother and true friend..
