ALEAN McMORRIS Obituary

On August 16, 1927, Alean Harris was born to parents Richard Harris Sr. and Maple Harris in Wildsville Louisiana. Years later the Harris’s welcomed four more children: Marie Cashsaw, (formally, Harris), deceased; Richard Jr. Harris, deceased; Eddie Lee Harris; and Irma Jean Williams. In the 1930s the Harris family moved to Turtle Lake, Louisiana before relocating to Frogmore, an unincorporated community in Concordia Parish, Louisiana; where her mother Maple Harris was laid to rest. In 1943, Alean accepted Christ through baptism. The following year the Harris’ moved to Ferriday, Louisiana.

On July 3, 1948, Alean joined the institution of matrimony with Lenfield Sr. McMorris. This holy union bore several children: Lenfield McMorris Jr., deceased; Larry Bernard McMorris,
deceased; Gary Jerome McMorris; and Jean Renice Wells. As nothing lasts forever, Lenfield Sr. and Alean amicably decided to divorce. With her newfound independence, Alean McMorris followed her sister Marie to San Diego, California. Once in San Diego, California, Alean joined Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorage of Rev. Johnson. Being closer to God was very important to Alean. She read the bible daily, studied the word of God, and was an active congregation member. Her servitude to the Lord included serving on the senior missionary board and administering the gospel as a Sunday school teacher.

As her thirst for knowledge grew; Alean continued her academic journey and enrolled in nursing school. She became a licensed vocational nurse (LVN) with hard work and determination. Most of her concentration, and expertise were demonstrated in the San Diego Naval Hospital’s Allergy Clinic. As an LVN, Alean could dispense care, comfort, and compassion without a prescription to her patients. After 29 years, of being employed with the San Diego Naval Hospital she retired. In addition, to earning her LVN license. Alean obtained a Bachelor’s in Child Development from San Diego City College. She later became a preschool teacher with the Neighborhood Housing Association Head Start Program. Alean provided instruction to children from socioeconomic impoverished communities throughout San Diego County. Alean, is affectionately referred to as Iron Maiden or Dugga by those closest to her. In the midst of her busy schedule, she always found time to help others. She helped raised children she did not birth from her womb - grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Furthermore, she opened her home and extended a room to those in need.

On October 20, 2019, Alean H. McMorris suffered a stroke and remained hospitalized until she returned home. In February 2020, Alean returned to her home. She was cared for by her daughter Jean and granddaughters Renece McMorris, Little Flower Jackson, and Charmaine McMorris. She enjoyed visits from her great-grandchildren and liked being informed of the current happenings in their lives.

On September 3, 2022, Alean H. McMorris was called home. She is preceded in death by her children Garry Jerome McMorris and Jean Wells; siblings Eddie Lee (Gloria) Harris and Irma Jean Williams; grandchildren Cornelius Dixon, Leslie Carter (formally, McMorris), Little Flower Jackson, Charmaine McMorris, and Renece McMorris; great-grandchildren Rosaria Sylvers (little Dugga), Amanda Jackson, Emmanuel Jackson, Charmaine Martin, Chanell Martin, Zedrick Martin Jr., LaSean Robinson, LeAnne Robinson, and Stanley Jacob.
