Joyce M. Eames

JOYCE MARIE EAMES was born October 2, 1953 in Saxe, Virginia. She was the eldest of six children born to the union of Henry Allen Elam and Ezie Harris Elam. Early in life, Joyce accepted Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized at Shiloh Baptist Church, where she attended Sunday School and Church in Drake Branch, Virginia.  She received her formal education in Virginia, where she attended Central High School and graduated from Randolph-Henry High School in Charlotte Court House, Virginia.

Joyce was married to Master Chief Robert Eames, USN Retired. Their union was blessed with two beautiful children, Debbie and Tony. On September 18, 2017, Joyce and Robert celebrated their forty-sixth wedding anniversary.  

As a military wife, Joyce was employed in a variety of positions and locations including, three years as a Clerk with the Navy Exchange in Yokosuka, Japan; three years as a Teacher Aid at San Diego CA Unified School District and three years with Diamond Bar CA Unified School District and File Clerk with National City Mortgage Company, Inc. in San Diego, where she retired after twenty years of service of excellence.

Joyce, who was a strong believer in God, loved her family unconditionally and she knew they loved her. She greatly enjoyed spending quality time with her granddaughter, Taniyah. She loved to cook for her family and friends and spending time in her garden. She also enjoyed collecting dolls and selective art figurines. Joyce’s memory will be forever etched in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Debbie Michelle Eames; father, Henry A. Elam and brother, Larry Elam.

Early Thursday morning on September 28, 2017, Joyce Marie Eames was called from earthly labor to eternal rest. She leaves to cherish her memory: her loving and devoted husband, Robert Eames Jr.; son, Tony Eames; (Margaret); mother, Ezie Elam of Saxe, VA; grandchildren, Taniyah Eames, Christina Aikens and Christopher Aikens all of San Diego, CA; three sisters, Dorenthia Currin (Ronnie) of Richmond, Virginia, Cheryl Bacon (Michael) of Keysville, Virginia and Ronda Elam of Saxe, Virginia; one brother, Vincent Elam (Barbara) of Chase City, VA; brother-in-law, Paul Eames of Cullen, VA; sister-in-law, Mary Carter of Macon, NC; godson, Sanjay Mani and his children, Jaslin and Sammya; goddaughter, Michelle Smith (Brian) and  children Robert and Kayla and a host of other relatives and friends throughout the country, including her beloved dog, Bella.
