I was thinking fond thoughts of my music teacher at Muirlands Jr. High School, Ruth Barnwell. She was the choir instructor as well as my 7th Grade English teacher. Could this man be her son? He would have been the same age as my brother, who has also passed. Just curious because after all these years, she left such an impression.

You're correct. Ruth was my English teacher and choir teacher. Thanks to her teaching in both classes, I went on to write several novels and develop into an opera singer. She and her son are both missed.

Tony, you and aunt Ruth crossed my mind this morning...Memories of those San Bernardino Days. You were such a cute little guy. I have a picture in my mind of aunt Ruth and my aunt Cecelia Bate, mother of Johnny, Darryl, and Pierre Bate. I have often wondered what happened to you all. The last time I remember seeing your family, you all had moved to San Diego. Reading these posts gives me a snapshot of your life on this earthly plain...You were loved, gifted, and blessed. I cherish your memory,

I was reflecting back to my days living in Clairemont. I thought of my music teacher Mrs. Barnwell. She was a true inspiration to me. Then I thought of Tony. We were on the Varsity wrestling team. I was shocked and saddened to see that Tony had passed away. I remember Tony as an adventurous young man. I saw him perform with his band a couple of times. I will always remember Tony and his mom being in my life. If I know Tony, he is playing and singing in heaven. Rest in peace my friend. Chuck

We were so dad to learn of Tony's passing. Our deepest sympathy to all of Tony's
family. We met Tony years ago when he was in a band called "The Stephens Bros.
Band" with our son Steve. Tony was a great guy and always upbeat.

My deepest condolences, Andrea, to you and your entire family. I was stunned to read of Tony's passing a few days ago, via a CHS Facebook post.

I don't know whether you remember me from CHS and our neighborhood: We lived near you, on Paul Jones (across from the Faber's house), and you and I were in Drill Team together. [I was CHS, Class of '64.]

Knowing that you always will miss your beloved brother, I wish you peace and healing as time passes.

With Warm Regards,
Janice R. Gerde

I was so sad to hear of Tony's passing today while visiting Facebook. I just reached out to him a few weeks ago through Classmates regarding our 50 year high school reunion coming up next September. I grew up just a few houses away from Tony and his family and knew them well. I will always remember his infectious personality and his jokes and pranks in school. God's blessing to his family..

I am sorry to hear about Tony's passing. We lived a few doors down from the Barnwell family in Clairemont for years. I heard about his passing on Pete Bogle's FB wall. My condolences to his whole family during this difficult time.
