Jeffrey Brian Jackson, affectionately known as JJ, was born April 15, 1962 to Cora Mae and Johnny Bell Jackson. He grew up in the San Diego CA area along with his many brothers and sisters. When it was discovered that JJ was profoundly deaf, his parents enrolled him in San Diego County schools that specialize in teaching American Sign Language.
Growing up, JJ was a big Kung Fu TV series fan. His favorite movie was Enter the Dragon, starring Bruce Lee. This led to his taking up martial arts for a time. While in high school, JJ enjoyed playing on the football team; but, his passion was being on the wrestling team! (He would sometimes practice on his brothers, much to their chagrin!) JJ completed his primary education upon graduating from Hilltop High School in 1980.
For almost 20 years, he worked at the Naval Supply Yard in National City, CA. Later, JJ moved to Las Vegas, NV and then to Mesa, AZ.
He loved football and was a huge San Diego Chargers fan! He spent many days reading about football games, watching movies about football, or studying the stats about football.
JJ often spoke fondly of his many siblings and his childhood memories. He also loved the members of the deaf community, where he was often known by the sign “JJ.” The importance of educating young deaf people and the challenges that they face was something that brought out the Big Brother in JJ.
He met Margot Kiner and they had three children: Jeffrey Jr, Jeremiah and Marissa. JJ recognized that his children were indeed among the great loves of his life!
Jeffrey passed away in his sleep on August 13, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents Cora Mae and Johnny Bell Jackson, Sr. He is survived by his 3 children, Jeffrey Jr, Jeremiah, and Marissa; 7 sisters, Victoria Hutt (Dari), Yvonne Anderson, Charlotte Jackson, Brenda Fladger, Pat Jackson, Sharon Washington and Rosilyn Jackson-Ross; 4 brothers, Kevin Jackson, Mark Jackson (Anita), Johnny Bell Jackson Jr (Wanda), and Jerome Jackson (Lisa); 18 nieces and nephews plus many more cousins aunts, uncles, and other family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
