ERA MAE HICKS was born on January 19, 1946, in Big Springs, Texas. She was the youngest of two children born to Bondy and Callene Bonner.
Era Mae moved to Los Angeles, California when she was sixteen years old to live with her father. After falling in love with the weather, she decided to make California her home, until she met her future husband, Mr. Levil Hicks, during the mid-sixties at a friend's house. that coincidental meeting led to them falling in love. Levil and Era Mae were united in Holy Matrimony on December 12, 1966. Afterwards, they decided to start their married life together in Houston, Texas, where Levil enlisted in the United States Army in 1967. Unfortunately, their union ended abruptly, when Levil was killed in1969 while serving in Vietnam.
Era Mae once again, found herself relocating back to California; but this time, she chose San Diego as her home. In 1973, she welcomed motherhood and her only daughter, Jennifer Lewis, into the world, starting a new chapter in her life.
Era Mae also enjoyed a career in the restaurant industry, in which she retired from the Admiral Kidd Club in 1995 in just enough time for the birth of her granddaughter, Brittany Taylor in 1997. She enjoyed the blessing of being a grandmother, bingo, dancing, music, cooking and going to social events.
Era Mae was full of life, feisty and never met a stranger. She could talk to anyone for hours even if she just met them. Most importantly, she had an eternal love for her family and friends.
On Sunday, January 21, 2018, Era Mae Hicks was called from earthly labor to eternal rest. She leaves behind a daughter; granddaughter; sister, Bonnie Ruth Lee; half-brother, Jaime Bonner; nieces, Debbie Lee, Diane Lee and Betty Lee; and a host of other relatives and friends who will mourn her passing, yet celebrate her life.
