Dr. Payton C. Cook, 97, of Las Vegas, passed away December, 25, 2018. He was born January 21, 1921 to Sam and Willie Mae Cook, in Ashdown, AR., and was a 16-year resident of Las Vegas. Dr. Cook served in the U.S. Army Reserve while attending Southern University on a football scholarship where he was later inducted into their Athletics Hall of Fame. He subsequently received his Masters and Doctoral Degrees from U.S. International University while working in the San Diego Unified School District from which he retired as Principal of Lincoln High School. He was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc, 100 Black Men, and the Mountain View Presbyterian Church in Las Vegas, NV. Dr. Cook loved to play tennis and craps, watch sports, travel, and help others. Payton was a devoted husband and caring friend. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother (Sam), and wives (Mary and Helen). Payton is survived by many family and friends. Services will be at Mountain View Presbyterian Church, 8601 Del Webb, LV, NV 89134 on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 1 pm. Burial will be in San Diego with a Graveside on Friday, January 11, 2pm at Mt.
