Catherine Martin Obituary

CATHERINE MAPP MARTIN was born on February 11, 1939 in White Plains, Georgia. She was the seventh child born to Chatman Mapp and Bessie Taylor Mapp. She was preceded in death by both of her parents, and two brothers, Gene Henry Mapp and Ronald Coleman Mapp Taylor. Catherine, affectionately known as “Cat”, was baptized at an early age at White Plains Baptist Church. She graduated from Floyd T. Corry High School in Greensboro, Georgia. After graduating, she moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where she was employed with Piedmont Pharmacy.

Catherine met and married Willie C. Hall on September 18, 1958. Three children were born to this union, Cynthia, Willie Jr. and Mary Jane. She later relocated to San Diego, California, where she met, fell in love and married Louis Thomas Martin on October 16, 1970. Their union was blessed with two children, Lamont and Derek.

Catherine was a woman blessed with great wisdom and knowledge and she was a supportive military wife. She was employed as a cashier, but her most rewarding job was being a mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She loved her family, and all the neighborhood kids. She always opened her home to anyone who needed a place to rest, a hot meal or just some tender loving care. As much as she loved and cared for others, she found time to slip away to her favorite pastime, which was B I N G O! Cat had a heart of gold and was always there when someone needed her; but most importantly, she was a woman of faith and was loved by all who knew her. Catherine was active in her church and community and was a member of the Eastern Star.

In 1965, Cat joined Bethel Baptist Church under the spiritual guidance of the late Dr. C. H. Hampton, and continued under Dr. John W. Ringgold, where she served in the Missions Ministry faithfully. Cat loved the Lord and she knew He loved her.

Cat was an outgoing woman who did not allow health concerns to hinder her from enjoying life, she persevered even to the very end, she was a fighter; she fought a good fight.

On Saturday, April 14, 2018, God called Catherine to the mansion He prepared for her. She leaves to cherish her memory one brother, Billy H. Mapp of Atlanta GA; one sister, Nettie Mapp Gott of Chattanooga, TN; two step-sisters, Annie Cody and Beatrice Meadows, both of Atlanta, GA; sister-in-law, Patricia Taylor of San Diego, CA; two daughters, Cynthia R. Hall and Mary Jane Hall of San Diego, CA, three sons, Willie C. Hall, Lamont L. Martin and Derek T. Martin, all of San Diego, CA; six grandchildren, Jarvis Carter, Ashley Hall (who preceded her in death); Chloe Handy, Russell Hall, Disha Hall and Jaina Jordan, all of San Diego, CA; seven great-grand-grandchildren, as well as a host of extended family and friends.
