Betty Elston Obituary

BETTY LOUISE ELSTON was born on March 10, 1938 in Roswell, New Mexico to the late Mrs. Anna Lee Benjamin.  Mother Betty Elston accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at the age of eight.  She received the Baptism of the Holy Ghost at the age of sixteen.

At the early age of three, she picked up the phone and sang “Yes, Jesus Loves Me” to the telephone operator. It was discovered that God had given her a beautiful voice for singing.  Realizing that all good things come from God, she had turned down many worldly offers that could have easily brought her fame and fortune.  Through her restricted singing of Gospel only, she has become one of the undisputed “Song Birds of San Diego”.

Mother Elston had been blessed to appear in a movie, television shows including the “Ted Mack Amateur Hour” in which she won an award over many participants.  She had also appeared as a guest gospel singer at the Del Mar State Fair.  Mother Elston has rendered many recitals, musicals and programs across the United States.

In the late 1950’s she met and later married Theodore Cash who was in service with the United States Air Force.  In 1961 they had a child born to their union.

Mother Elston enjoyed attending church and being involved in the church.  In her spare time, she loved watching religious shows and western movies.  After God the most important thing in her life was family.  She loved being a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, godmother, sister, aunt and dear friend to so many.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Anna Lee Benjamin and her sister, Willa Brown.

On Saturday, December 22, 2018, Betty Louise Elston was called home to be with the Lord.  She leaves behind to meet again, her sister, Marie Atkinson; her brothers, Willie Jones, James Jones and Nathan Benjamin; her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Barbara Cash; grandchildren, Raquel, Angela, Dion and Brandon and several great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends who will mourn her passing yet celebrate her life.
