Bertha Dobbins Nelson was born September 11, 1933 to Henry Sr. and Bertha Dobbins. Bertha was the baby of six children and was called “Sista”. Her parents, 3 brothers Percy, Preston, and Henry, one sister Annie Mae preceded her in death.
She was educated in the St. Louis School system.
Bertha accepted Christ at an early age at Prince of Peace Missionary Baptist Church under the Leadership of the late Rev. Fred McDonald. Later she joined New White Stone and Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist under the leadership of Rev. Watson and worked on the Usher Board Ministry.
Bertha united in holy matrimony in 1952 to the late L.C. Nelson and to their union six children were born Lawrence, Elizabeth, LeRoy, Ricky, Curtis and Linda.
Bertha spent many years as a member and advocate for Fair Housing, HUD and was a South Side member with Jean King in St. Louis, MO Housing and Human Rights Council. Bertha gave a lot of herself faithfully until her hearth began to fail.
Bertha moved to Chula Vista, CA in 2015 with her daughters, where she remained until she departed this life and made her way into the presence of the Lord on Monday, January 22, 2018 at her home with family at her side.
Her memories will forever be cherish: 6) children, Lawrence C. Nelson (Maria), Elizabeth Nelson, LeRoy Nelson (Renee) Ricky Nelson, Curtis Nelson, and Linda Nelson, 15) grandchildren, 36) great grandchildren, 3) great-great grandchildren, 1) sister Mattie Jones, 1) sister-in-law Grace Dobbins, a host of nieces, nephews many cousins and friends one special God daughter Ms. Kem Fenderson.
