BERRY ANDREW ALEXANDER passed away peacefully in bed while watching television at his childhood home on Siena Street in San Diego, California on May 22, 2018.
Berry was born April 15, 1960 to Adeline Collier and Lorraine Alexander. The father to five gorgeous daughters and uncle to a host of nieces and nephews, he was the patriarch of the Alexander family. Berry dutifully attended all football games, track meets and dance recitals of his young nieces and nephews who affectionately referred to him as “Uncle B”. Berry was the designated chef on Siena Street. No one could cook on his stove without being booted from his kitchen, including his own mother. He alone prepared the nightly meals, fried the shrimp, sand dabs, and catfish; every holiday he prepared culinary feasts.
After Berry’s tenure in the United States Army, he worked as a Pharmacy Technician at Sharps Chula Vista Hospital. He also held a position as concierge at the Hilton Hotel. Berry’s beautiful life was an example of seizing the day, of squeezing the marrow out of this precious life God has given us. An accomplished athlete and an enthusiast of sports, cigars, brews, and casino gambling, Berry’s winning smile and infectious laugh made all of us who were fortunate enough to have him grace our lives want to enjoy their lives more too. He was absolutely hilarious and would weave magnificent tales of adventure and escapades.
Berry is survived by his mother, Adeline Alexander; daughters, Deondra, Keondra, Monique, Isabella and Illeana; sisters, Kim Alexander-Manson, Leslie Pounds and Sonja Taylor-Banks; three grandchildren and one great grandson; a favored aunt, Birdie Baldwin, as well as the Alexander, Collier, Fore, Jackson, Reed, Tucker and Williams families; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Berry lives eternally in our hearts. As he did in life, he will take the family lead and make the first introductions to our Heavenly Father. It is not goodbye but see you later our Precious Prince of a son, brother, father, grandfather and uncle.
