Anita Johnson

ANITA JONES DODSON JOHNSON was born on June 27, 1949 in Memphis, Tennessee to Paul and Ora Jones. She later resided with her cousins, James Dodson of the United States Air Force and his wife, Daisy, who later adopted her. She began her formal education in Memphis.

Upon receiving new assignment orders during Mr. Dodson and his family relocated to Hawaii, where Anita completed her education. While in Hawaii, she met Dewayne Johnson of the United States Navy. On February 18, 1971, they were united in marriage. Their union was blessed with a son, whom they named James.

In 1972, Anita began working at the Sheraton Hotel in Hawaii. In December of 1978, she transferred to the Sheraton Hotel in San Diego, California, Anita was also baptized in San Diego at Bayview Baptist Church. She retired from  the Sheraton as a reservations personnel. Afterwards, she enrolled at Watterson College, taking classes to become a travel agent. However after graduating, she began working at Town and Country as a PBX operator.

Anita was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and the best friend one could ever have. She was always willing to give a smile that would happen in a flash and the memory of it would last and last. She was always supporting family members and friends in their goals.

In 2014, Anita’s health began to deteriorate and on Friday morning, October 5, 2018, the Lord summoned  her from earthly labor to eternal rest. She was preceded in death by her parents: Paul and Ora Jones and James and Daisy Dodson and her brother, Allen Jones.

Anita is survived by her loving and devoted husband of forty-seven years: Dewayne Johnson; her loving son, James A. Johnson; siblings: Elizabeth Hughes (William); Mary Lance, Pauline Jones, Philip Jones, Paul Jones Jr. and Daisy Taviea; her sister-in-law, Ellen Jones; grandchildren: Jordan Johnson, Amari Myjae Johnson, James Johnson Jr. and Jamiesha Johnson and a host of other relatives and friends who will mourn her passing, yet celebrate her life.
