ALVIN WINFORD was born to the late Daily & Ethel Winford in Eunice, Louisiana on December 4, 1939. he was summoned home to be with the Lord on August 20, 2017 surrounded by his loved ones.

Al, as he was affectionately known by his family and friends, spent his formative years in Eunice, Louisiana. He was one of seven children.  He united with the True Light Baptist Church at an early age and was an active member.  After moving to San Diego he attended Calvary Baptist Church and later united with Greater Life Baptist Church. In January, 2014, while under the leadership of Pastor Cedric Manley, Al was ordained a Deacon of Greater Life Baptist Church, He served fatefully  and was always willing to help in other ministries until his health began to deteriorate. He loved his church and his church family, but above all, He truly loved the Lord.

Al was a construction worker and worked many years for R&R Sealcoating until he opened his own business, “Al’s Sealcoating”.

In 1992, Al united in holy marriage with the lovely Deborah C. Lee of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Their union was blessed a son, Raymond. Al was very active with Raymond’s schooling and received volunteer of the year from Johnson Elementary School.

Deacon. Winford was a very  quiet man until it came to his favorite sports team, The Los Angeles Lakers.  Many days he would be on the phone with his brother, Dale and the late Rev. Dr. Willie E. Manley discussing why they lost or celebrating the win.  He was also a die heart San Diego Chargers Fan until they moved to Los Angeles. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents and four sisters, Laura Alfred, Bessie L. Duresseau, Shirley A. Lee and Martha Winford.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife, Deborah Lee-Winford; one son, Raymond D. Winford; sisters, Marie Jones of Oakland, CA and Kathleen Branch (Clarence) of San Diego, CA; brother, Dale Winford (Frances) of San Diego, CA and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews and his Greater Life Baptist Church Family.
