Roy Landers

ROY LANDERS JR. was born in San Diego, California on December 25, 1970.  He was the second of two children born to Roy Landers, Sr. and Princetta Landers. Roy Jr. accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Calvary Baptist Church. He attended Marvin Elementary School, Lewis Jr. High School and Patrick Henry High School where he was a member of the Football team.

 Roy Jr. had a long-standing work history.  His childhood dream was always to be a chef. After graduating from Patrick Henry High School in 1989, he attended Sea World’s culinary Academy and soon after, was hired as a Sous Chef at the first Ruth’s Chris restaurant to open in San Diego.  While at Ruth’s Chris, he was chosen to be a part of the training team that would travel and train new team members to open Ruth’s Chris restaurants across the United States. Many people were blessed to sample his cooking including, celebrities such as Billy Joel and Jerry Lewis; who would request that Roy cook their steaks when they visited the San Diego restaurant.

In 2004, Roy was hired as the first Chef at the Flemings steak house that opened in San Diego. He along with other team members, helped to make Flemings the number one Steak House in San Diego during their first year.  His final career move was to UCSD, where he was a team member in the catering department. 

If you knew anything about Roy Jr., you knew that he loved life, he loved to laugh and if he liked you he would rarely call you by your given name; unless you were Mom or Dad, he would call you “Big Head”, “Crust” or “Scrub”.

On November 2, 2017, Roy Jr. departed this life to be with the Lord.  Those left to cherish his memory include: his parents: Roy Landers, Sr. and Princetta Landers; his sister and brother-in-law Natasha and Stephen Reese; his niece, Sasha Reese; his great uncle and aunt, Israel and Estell Murry; five uncles, five aunts, a host of cousins, family and friends.
